Windows 98 SE UDF File System - only for UDF 1.02 (DVDs)?

Postby Traveller on Mon Jun 30, 2003 8:13 am

hi2all!

I'm using Ahead's SW for my burning & packet-writing needs. I also installed Ahead's EasyWrite Reader in order to be able to read UDF-1.5-formatted CD-RWs on a non CD-RW optical drive.

I recently did some troubleshooting with my [W98SE] OS, and discovered that there's a switch to toggle the OS's built-in UDF File System (via msconfig.exe). I tested the native UDF file system against a UDF 1.5 formatted CD-RW which could not be read.

So what use is 98's native UDF file system, anyways? Is it only compatible with the UDF version 1.02 & thus exclusively for DVD read-support? Can I switch native UDF support off (to avoid potential compatibility issues with my Ahead UDF SW) and what consequences, if any, might there be?

Thx much for any info on the subject! :)

I didn't know that you could manually switch Win98SE's UDF off like that.

What makes you say that the UDF is for DVD reading? Or did I misinterpret that?

Yes.

Yes, but there are no compatibility issues with InCD. It might disable support for DVD playback.

Thx for the info, Inertia :)
True, I haven't witnessed any compatibility issues to date, but I just wanted to check it out with the pros :D
