Windows XP Pro update files

Postby georgeg on Tue Sep 30, 2003 9:53 am

Does anyone have a link to a page where I can download and archive the various update files for Windows XP Pro? My system locked up last night during the install of SP-1a and I'm afraid I'll have to download the thing again. I'd rather just download these files once. I'm on a dial-up account and it takes a long time for something as big as a service pack, not to mention the 40 or so other updates.

Get the service pack from Microsoft here, but choose the "Network Installation" rather than the "Express Installation". You will have to download everything in the service pack, even if you don't need it, but then you will be able to burn it and use it again and again, even on different computers, without having to download anything again.

Get the hotfixes and security updates from here rather than through Windows Update, and again you will be able to store them and burn them to use over and over on different computers rather than having to run Windows Update and download them again every time you need them.

FYI MS is supposed to be publishing a pre-SP2 security rollup in the near future as well.

Well, I tried to install SP1a twice last night and both times had the system lock up before completing the install. Has anyone else had problems installing SP1 or is it just me? I guess I'll have to try and install the critical updates one by one. (And there is a whole lot of them to wade thru!)
