What is the qietest cd writer drive at x48x16+x48

I wanter to know what is the quietest drive out there. I heard so far liteon x48 drive Aopen x48, Asus x 48, Samsung x40 drive all those first 2 were very loud and samsung still loud but less than first 2.

Hey, I don't think you can call the Lite-On 48x a quiet drive. That drive is more for people who demand speed with heavy duty performance. If you really care about the noise a drive makes, and speed isn't that big of an issue, then go for the Yamaha F1. It's a bit more overpriced but has some good features.

Is there any alternative to yamahas drive? Yamaha is a bit expensive.

The quietest drive I've ever seen is the MSI 8348 DragonWriter. If you get one, make sure it isn't the ExacLink version. Many people have complained to me about crappy performance and poor quality. My Pioneer 116 DVD-ROM is almost silent, and honestly, I can't hear the MSI 48/16/48 because the DVD makes more noise. . . and I'm watercooled. . . aka no fan noise

You mean Justlink? I could not find any Seemless on that rewiev that you posted. And I could not find any MSI with Justlink all online shops selling ExacLink model (un UK).

The most quiet 48x16x48x CD-RW that's also reasonably priced (in my experience) is the Samsung SW-248B.

Best Buy has this drive for $50 after MIR.

LG's are fairly quiet. I don't know about their 48x one, but my 40x is pretty good. I don;t think we should expect absolutely silent burners, because after all there is a disc spinning in there at pretty fast speeds.

Aha! Ahhhhhh! Good one, dacdwriter. I own two LG drives, and although neither of them are the GCE-8480B, they are both very quiet. I doubt LG's standard of craftsmanship has changed; look to them if you want a quiet drive.

They call the drive "Justlink", but Nero 5.5.9.17 identifies it as Seemless Link. I guess they are the same? Either way, it's not exaclink. The thing that chaps me is that MSI even uses the same box to ship both drive models. (8348A and 8348B)

They're similar in function, but not the same thing. JustLink is from Ricoh. Seamless Link from BenQ/Philips.

Actually the boxes differ a little. They do say what technology they use. Of course, most online stores don't know the difference so you really don't know which one you're getting.

Hey JesusFreak. MSI is supposed to have a fix for their ExacLink 48x writer soon.. about time.

My box says nothing about the buffer-under-run tech used. Nothing. It lists drive specs, system requirements, box contents, but no drive tech. I got one of the first of these drives to hit shelves, so they probably have changed packaging since then. My hypothesis is that the originally were going to release one model of the MSI 8348 - hence the box I have, but later decided on two models.

I hope that they fix the ExacLink Model soon. I will finally be able to give a supportive answer to all of the hate-mail I've been getting on the MSI 8348 ExacLink model. heh

Arrgghh.. for the hell of it I tried out the 140D firmware for MSI's Exaclink 48x writer. Yeah it fixes some of the issues I was having... by disabling the 48x writing speed for most of the media. I hope their next fix is better.

One thing I noticed with my 48X Lite-On is that some CD-Rs are noisier than others - at 48X Tayio Udens burn pretty quiet but some CMC (generics), Postech and Maxell CD-Rs make the drive make more noise, especally when the burner "cranks up" to full burn speed.

I guess the thinner (or warped) a CD-R is the noisier?.. Can anyone confirm this?

The TEAC 40x was a quiet drive in my experience (OK, you could hear the motor whine but the helicopter-like whoosh was largely absent). Maybe the new 48x is the same, I'm not sure.
