.wav files on DVD

Is it possible to burn .wav files to a DVD-R and your standalone DVD Player plays them? Would I just make an ISO compilation with just the .wav files?

Why not MP3? Some DVD players can play MP3. If they can play MP3, I guess they can also play WMA, ASF, OGG, WAV, and many other formats. I don't know whether there are players that support other than MP3 but Lite-On'll be one of the first to support such various PC formats.

Because my Pioneer DV-656A doesn't support MP3 on DVD not many DVD standalones do, nor does my DVD Player support WMA hence the question.

I think you'd have to be able to burn (and the player read) DVD-Audio discs...

Or is that only for MP3's recorded on CD-R? What happened when you burned MP3 files to a DVD-ROM (UDF) disc and put it in your player?

Here's what I did. I converted 14 wave files to 24 bit/194 hz and they ballooned to 4GBs I burned them to a DVD-RW using udf/iso as well as iso. My Pioneer actually played the iso one but the audio sounded like some alien language it wouldn't play the udf/iso at all. My player does play DVD-Audio so I was trying to see if I could find a cheap solution to getting DVD-Audio quality on a DVD disc. I'm going to try burning some MP3 Files to a DVD-RW and see how it goes and report back.

Ouch!

Were the 14 wav files 16-bit 44.1 kHz in the first place? If so, converting to 24-bit 194 kHz didn't buy you any sound quality, so you might just have well burned them to a regular audio CD in CDA format in the first place, which your player can handle.

It seems to me that these are the only reasons to burn music to a DVD disc:

1. The original source material is in DVD audio format and you want to maintain that level of quality.
2. You want to fit a whole bunch of music in standard CD-quality or MP3-quality on one disc

Expanding 14 CD-quality songs into a DVD's worth of data while maintaining only CD-quality doesn't accomplish much.

That is unfortunate. Did you burn a straight UDF or UDF/ISO disc? And referring to my previous post (which I was working on as you posted), what is your real goal in this exercise? Better quality or more music?

Yeah I was just trying to see if I could get a better quality sound. As far as the MP3s go I used DVD-ROM ISO format I may try UDF/ISO another time to see how it goes but from what I've read DVD standalones only seem to recognize and play MP3 burnt on CDRs or CDRWs. It would be nice if I could manage to get it to play MP3s on DVD because then I could back up my whole Oldies collection not to mention my old R&B on probably 3 DVD-Rs.
