System is a triple boot system:
C has Win 98
F has Win 2000
G has another Win 2000 (my main system) with Nero 5.5.10.42 and InCD (retail
versions). InCD version is 3.5.24.0 because InCD 4.* changes file date when I copy file to CD-RW media. EasyWrite Reader is version 1.0.1.0, due to bug in version 4.0.0.10.
CD-RW is ATAPI Plextor PX-W4824TA
CD-ROM is SCSI Plextor PX-32TS
CD-RW is Master on Primary IDE controller
ZIP drive is Master on Secondary IDE controller
All other drives, other than floppy, are SCSI.
Both Win 2000 systems are SP 4.
Today, I tried installing Nero 6.0.0.9.
I decided to first install on other than Win 2000 on drive G, just in case there would be problems. Sadly, there were very serious problems.
1. I first installed nero6009.exe, then n6009eng.exe, followed by InCD40121.exe in Win 98.
This was a disaster, InCD40121 caused the system to not function properly. For example, I could not copy a file to the CD-RW and the cursor could not select anything on, e.g., the Office ShortCut Toolbar.
As an experiment, I then uninstalled Nero and InCD and Installed Nero 5.5.10.42 and InCD 3.5.24.0. However, I could not find ANY version of Easy Write Reader that would work in Win 98. Even after installing EasyWrite Reader (I tried versions 1.0.1.0 and 4.0.0.10), I was continualy asked whether I wanted to install Easy Write Reader each time I tried to read a CD-RW in the CD-ROM drive.
What combination of Nero, InCD and Easy Write Reader is alleged to work in Win 98?
2. Due to my bad experience with your software in Win 98, I decided to not risk ruining the installation in Win 2000 on G, and decided to try a fresh install in the Win 2000 on F.
So I installed nero6009.exe, then n6009eng.exe, followed by InCD40121.exe in Win 2000 on F.
a. Alas, since InCD 4.0.1.21 still has the bad date bug, I uninstalled InCD 4.0.1.21 and attemptted to install InCD 3.5.24.0. I was not permitted to install InCD 3.5.24.0, as I guess the serial number for Nero 6 is not recognized by InCD 3.5.24.0.
The proper solution would be for Ahead to fix the date bug in InCD. This just cannot be difficult and I do not understand why this bug has been allowed to continue.
If I uninstall Nero 6, then install Nero 5 and then Nero 6, would that dirty the registry so InCD 3.5.24.0 would be able to figure out that I had a Nero 5 license code as well as a Nero 6 license code? That would allow me to get around the bad date problem
b. I do not know why, but Easy Write Reader version 4.0.0.10 would not work with InCD 4.0.1.21 and Nero 6.0.0.9. I had to revert to Easy Write Reader 1.0.1.0.
Instead of showing the files on the media, EWR 4.0.0.10 would show the hidden autorun.inf, etc. intended to be used to install EWR.
