Two Questions On Nero 6 Upgrade and OEM Version

Postby Steeler on Sun Feb 08, 2004 10:43 am

I have a couple questions for the wisdom of this group:

1. OEM Version Question: I have seen multiple sites with Nero 6 OEM for sale fairly cheap. My question is that the two times I have bought CDRW drives that came with Nero OEM (5.5 version) the installation is limited to the drive that came with the software. If I buy and OEM version, won't it be specific to another DVD/CD drive?

2. Upgrade Version Question: I looked into buying the full upgrade, but the US and Canadian upgrade appears to be $49 and the rest-of-world version is only $39...both in US dollars....what's up with that?

Anyway, inputs anyone?

1.Nero OEM is usually Nero Express, www.pricegrabber.com lists Nero 6 OEM for $3-20 USD.
Bundled means it only works with the drive it came with.

2.Nero 6 upgrade(N.America) includes extras such as Recode 2,Nero Express 2.I use 5.5.10.54 and it works great,IMO Nero 6 isn't worth the money.

Thanks !!!

My CDRW drives 's came with Nero Burning ROM 5.5, including Express (if I understand the difference). If I start the project in Nero Express with my new DVDRW drive as the target, and not the bundled CDRW drive, then switch to Burning ROM, I can use this to burn DVD's and CD's. (Burning as I type). This seems an OK workaround, and lets me use Nero vs. Roxio Easy CD/DVD that came with my new drive. Is the Nero 6 upgrade worth it for a casual user (i.e. backup copies of Movie DVDs and duplicating CDs 3-4x per month).

If your going to be backing-up movies, then upgrade to Nero 6 Ultra for sure. Nero Recode 2 is an awesome program for backing up DVD's, just pair it together with DVD Region Free and your set. I would strongly recomend upgrading.

Shhh! That was supposed to be a secret. :D
The Nero burn plugin for WMP9 works on all my drives too.

Yeah, I think Nero 6 is for outside of the US, and Nero 6 Ultra is for the US, not 100% sure on that though. You need DVD Region Free because Nero 6 can not backup copy protected discs, so you need DVD Region Free to allow Nero 6 to bypass the CSS. Just get the free trial:
http://www.dvdidle.com/dvd-region-free.htm

I should also mention that Nero Recode 2 which is the program to copy DVD's is part of the Nero Vision Express package.

You can also ripped your copy protected disk by DVD Shrink in to your Hard Drive and then DVD Shrink will burn it automatically through Nero 6.
That means combination of DVD Shrink and Nero will do the job.

Anothe way is to by DVD X Copy Express only and you are on your way.

ohhhhh, ick, stay away from all dvdxcopy software

isn't like you can't make copies of copies made from that program?

also stupid warning message at beginning of movie, boooooo

even if you can do a simple file delete before you burn to get rid of it, just the thought of a company doing that to me, makes me very dis-pleased

yeah either do nero recode 2 + dvd region free, or nero + dvd shrink

my vote goes to nero recode 2 + dvd region free

OK - I bought the upgrade to Nero 6 Ultra. Haven't a lot of runtime, obviously, but thats this week's plan.

All seems fine, but as soon as I click the InfoTool app, I blue screen out of Windows 2000 Pro....is this a known bug or what? I found some vague threads with similar, but no resoution. Anyone taken this to ground in the past?

Thanks.
