Total lunar eclipse

Postby MediumRare on Thu May 15, 2003 3:01 pm

There's a total eclipse of the moon tonight. Visible in all of the Americas this evening. Early in the morning in W. Europe. It starts at 22:03 EDT, total phase at 23:14.

These occur 1-2x a year, but most aren't delivered as conveniently and ready to view (in America- I have to get up at 4 am).

Set an alarm. Let your burners cool off, put your DVDs on pause and have a look at the moon.

Here's a chart.

I saw the moon disappear at the beginning of the eclipse! I could see it, and then it was gone a few minutes later. :o

You'll have another chance on Nov. 9, 2-3 hours earlier. If you're west of the Mississippi, you may just catch the end of it.

Well I got up at 4 and saw the shadow starting to nibble at the lower left of the moon. When I checked again 45 min. later, the moon was gone behind some mist or trees (it was already getting light). So I went back to bed for 1.5 hours.
