Postby sapiens74 on Mon Dec 01, 2003 3:05 am

Just picked up an Xbox and have a DDW-081 on the way.

can anyone tell me if they have had success with the drive and whats the best solderless mod chip to get.

I need to get one from a good dealer.

Thanks

first off you need for find your xbox version:

http://www.xbox-scene.com/versions.php

then if your xbox isn't a version 1.0, you can install the totally solderless X-ecuter 2.2 lite+:

http://shop.system-mods.com/subcatmfgpr ... 206&2=1075

if you have a 1.0 xbox usually the solder is filled in where the solderless mod chip would go, then i would just have system-mods install your modchip for you, with the 2.3lite

http://shop.system-mods.com/product.asp ... 1=218&3=94

cost is $83 includes shipping, usually takes 3-4 business days after they receive your xbox to the point where you get it back, for some reason me and my friends used there service and we paid for ground shipping but got it back next-day air

if your with me so far great, moving on

if i was you i would also put in a bigger hard drive in your xbox

i put a 120GB hard drive in my system, and just load all my games on there, and burn backups with my Plextor 708A dvd burner

try to stick to dvd-r burning mostly, its the most compatible across the xbox board

haha, if you want, return your xbox you bought and just buy the pre-modded ones:

I have a launch xbox and want to get it modded as well. Does the mod come ready to play back ups or do you have to do something to it ? Any info would be a great help. BTW what software would be needed to make a backup?

once you get the mod chip, usually they come with a legal firmware, not able to play backups, but just load like a different bios on there, then your set

i use xiso to make image of xbox game, then just burn with nero

to get the game backed up, just copy the game to your xbox with Evo-X dashboard, then ftp into your xbox to grab files off, then xiso to make .iso from game files, then burn:

good, then you can probably mod your xbox yourself:

http://www.system-mods.com/cgi-bin/pd/k ... 44&lang=en

but i would also get a different burner, perhaps plextor 708a or pioneer dvr-106

Supposes to support it with a bios upgrade, but I was hoping between the mod chip and booktype maybe my xbox would read it

Xbox drives read DVD+R/RW just as good as DVD-R/RW, everything else is just pure BS. The only thing is that the Samsung drive needs DVD+R to have DVD-ROM book type, but that's no problem for you as you got the Nu tech drive.

The Plextor (and TDK) write DVD+R with DVD+R book type so they won't work in Samsung Xbox. DVD+RW should work though, I've tested Ricoh DVD+RW with no problems at all.
