Burn baby burn!

tdk media rated at 48x or not

Postby yuki chan on Thu Dec 19, 2002 7:04 pm

I recently purchased a spindle of tdk 48x media (50 pk)

The media is based on cmc magnetics type 6 media mechinism

I have two burners in my system a 48x plextor and a 40x plextor

The interesting thing is that the media seldom burns at 48x or 40x

Each piece of media tends to burn at a different speed!

It’s a surprise in every disc

Two of my friends have the same burner and the media is random on there machines also

any one else with porblem such as this ???

The drive doesn't read at a single speed, it changes throughout the disk. write times will vary...

I have not been clear in my post

I already now about plextors sampling and burn technology to determine the speed of the disc

Yes the drive uses zone-clv

That’s not the problem; no two discs have the same ending speed

Some will end at the last zone at 48x some 16x some 20x and more…

Yes, but it also monitors the burn process. If it senses that the writing quality is below what it should be, it will keep writing at the current speed until the end of the session.
