TDK 8X burner $$140.00 after rebate

Postby jpuntel on Mon Dec 29, 2003 2:41 am

I think this is a re-badged Plextor 708A. I'm not sure how TDK is about firmware updates but I think this is a good deal.
Staples is selling the drive for $159 plus tax, use this link to take off another $30 http://prefctr.ddc.dartmail.net/Staples ... 0171052983
In PA, after the $40 MIR it comes to $140 plus change. Any opinions or experience with TDK's products and support would be helpful.

Yup, it's a re-badged 708A, it's an excellent drive. Perfect 8x burning on 4x media, perfect with RITEKG04 DVD-R media at 4x.

Don't know how TDK is with firmware updates though as I have the Plextor badged one. Right now there is 1.04 for the Plextor and only 1.03 for the TDK, so they are behind, but they were behind from 1.02 on TDK to 1.03 on Plextor earlier so I would assume they will release an update soon.

I would, you will save the money for more disks and you will have the physically identical drive with a TDK name on it rather than Plextor.

Got it for 180 and some change. Subtract the 40.00 rebate and were looking at one hell of a deal. Basically a Plextor for 140.00!

I wonder if all stores will honor it since it says on the coupon that minimum purchase requirements must be met with purchase "to which no other coupon or instant savings offer applies."

Knowing the people at my Stapes, they'll read the coupon and figure it out. :)
