Sony DRU500a error with K Hypermedia

I've had the Sony DRU500a for a couple of weeks now (ordered online from Circuit City for $350) and I got a good deal on 5 packs of DVD-R KHypermedia "for general/for data use" (from Microcenter for $5/5 pack). I've upgraded my sony dvd burner to 10g. I've burned about 5 or so dvd's with no problems whatsoever. burned and played just fine in my cyber home dvd player. I've changed NOTHING and now this is what happens. I'm trying to put my divx movies on dvd. I use to virtual dub to extract audio and tmpeg to encode. I use Sonic's Mydvd to author and burn the discs. Mydvd goes through "it's deal" and when it comes time to actualy write info to the disc, it writes for a moment and then returns this error "Could not complete the last command because device error sense code (3 0 c 0 write error, recovery failed, write (dvd err, 199688)" I've even tried burning with Memorex dvd-r ($4 per disc) and got the same error. Anybody have any ideas? should I downgrade the firmware? Please help, I was soooo happy with this drive, but now...problems. Of course I want to pay around $1 per disc for dvd-r.

I don't believe it is the firmware. I have 1.0g on my Sony too and I have no troubles with it. I would not down grade it without more cause. Of course all the upgrade is supposed to be for is to read + 4X media which I do not think exists at this point. So down grading it probably would not cost you anything, if that were not it you could always upgrade again. Good thing is is a Sony and not a Pioneer.

But I suspect a drive problem more then an upgrade problem. My 1.0g works on everything that I use, but I do not use the same software that you use. I use Stomp and DVD Decrypter to burn with.
