Subbywubby, did you happen to try to run ADVDINFO on that media? I ran it on the Meritline and Hyper Microsystems media and it ran identical on both of them. Neither would work on my Sony drive but both worked on the A05. ADVDINFO gives quite a bit more information then that info panel on DVD Decrypter.
I still cannot get into the order site for the URL that you posted. I will keep trying though the order site may be temporaily down.

Thanks again........

Hmmmm, I'm having no problems connecting to the site...

http://store.yahoo.com/runpc/pionoem47gbd.html

Ritek 4.7GB DVDR DVD-R Blank Media
(It used to say Pioneer OEM 4.7 GB DVD-R Media 4x)

Storage Capacity: 4.7GB / 120 Minutes
Recording Speed: 1x~4x or up
Quantity: 25 pcs
Disc Diameter: 120mm
Disc Thickness: 1.20 mm
Compatibly with:

Pioneer: A05 105
Sony: DRU-500A

Packaging: Cake Box
Grade: A grade

If that link doesn't work for you try the main page:

www.run-pc.com

You should be able to find the media under DVD-R & DVD-RW....

BTW I ran that ADVDINFO thingy and you are right it does give more information but I didn't find any differance between the structure of the media I purchased from HyperMicro and the ones I got from www.run-pc.com besides the fact that the ones I got from run-pc are silver topped.

Thx

I don't have trouble connecting to the sit but when I click "order" it comes back with a blank. Either they are out of the product or their site that does the ordering is down. I will try again tomorrow.
That is really strange that all of the info on those discs are the same. I think all of the ones I have bought from Meritline and Hypo Microsystems were silver topped. And they all came in the exact same cake box and all of the data was exactly the same. The only difference was that the ones I got would not work in the Sony drive but they worked fine in the A05 drive. Interestingly enough there were folks on this forum and others that swore that the media from Meritline worked on their Sony drives and the media from Hyper Microsystems did not. Neither of them worked on my Sony so I am not sure if my drive just won't work at 4X or what is going on?

I'll try again tomorrow maybe I can place an order then.

Thanks for your help.........

I ordered 25 pak ritek 4X from hypermicro.com that day. Burnt 2 movies perfectly on my Sony DRU500A at 4X (with firmware 1.0d) and played flawlessly on my Sony DVP-NS755V player. Couldn't be more happier.

My Sony DRU-500A has 1.0f firmware on it. I have been told by more then one person to down grade it to 1.0d and it would burn at 4X. I have been reluctant to try that although some have told me it is easy to do. I guess Sony is not as fussy about changing revs as Pioneer is.
Maybe I will give it a try, thanks for the information.

I have not really looked into it but I am guessing that we need to find the 1.0d firmware and re-install it. I am not sure if I still have a copy of it. I think 1.0e is the one we skipped on our way to 1.0f.

Does anyone know where we can get 1.0d firmware and/or have any information about down grading the firmware on the Sony DRU-500A or do we have to wing it. :)
