Review or Info needed on the LG GCE-8525B

Postby monza on Sat Jan 10, 2004 2:57 pm

Hello,

My great Yamaha 3200E dropped dead after only 1 year and I purchased the LG 8525B. I have not been able to find a review on this one.The Drive seems like a cheap version of previous LG drives.Is this Drive any good ?
Does anyone have any info or feedback on this burner ?

Thanks

Alternative was the AOpen CRW5232 52/32/52 CD-RW

The LG-8525B? well, sometime's it outperforms the Plextor Premium, and LiteON LDW-411s for CD burning quality even! It's also a good overburner. As with every drive, it has its' pro's and con's.
Punch Cards -> Paper Tape -> Tape Drive -> 8" Floppy Diskette -> 5 1/4" Floppy Diskette -> 3 1/2" "Flippy" Diskette -> CD-R -> DVD±R -> BD-R

I replaced mu Mitsumi 485GTE with an LG 8525B and it performs well. The only major drawback i found that it's not able to burn my TDK 800MB cd-r's which are recognized with a capacity of 674MB :evil:

Sometimes clonecd complains "drive is not compatible blabla"

Have you tried with other software? I know that Alcohol 120% is very good at working with overburning, and is deffinatly the easiest software to work with with making an over capacity CD.

TDK 800 mb is there.
It's TDK 90 minutes disc.
So what would you say there is a lot of 90 minutes media out there.
Fact is that TDK succeeded in creating there disc in such a way that it's recognized by some drives as 90 minutes/800mb.
So you don't need overburning !
Now for some drives(pioneer A03 I think it was) this means that they can burn 90 minutes with this media while the fail with other 90 minutes media.

If people are interested in the packaging check out www.cdr-info.de or the feurio webstore.
