Replace faulty DVD-ROM drive

Postby vio_man on Wed Nov 21, 2007 6:33 pm

My LiteON SOHD-16P9S is having problems detecting discs, and it's time to retire it. It doesn't make any sense to buy another DVD-ROM drive, so I will buy a burner. It must be PATA (IDE) and white (or beige).

I made a list:

- Samsung SH-S202J/N
- Pioneer DVR-112
- LiteON LH-20A1H

It's not easy to find white or beige drives #-o If you have any other suggestion, please be my guest.

I've got SATA version of the Samsung (SH-S203B) and the Pioneer (DVR-212D)... While I prefer the Samsung, I have heard it's IDE version the 202x is not quite as good but may improve with a firmware update. That said, the Pioneer is a great drive too. Since you are going IDE, I guess I would suggest the Pioneer. Keep in mind the 115D is coming soon (20x write speed... not that 18x is not fast enough).
