You may want to check and see who makes the DVR-X152. For some reason, I remember it being based on an ASUS design.

I asked because Newegg has a deal on the Samsung SE-224Q of $49.99, but they could be sold out by now.

Are you saying that the Pioneer DVR-X152 is really designed by ASUS, but the DVR-X162Q is from Pioneer?

So I should still get the DVR-X162Q?

Yeah, the DVR-X152's internals are designed and probably manufactured by ASUS. It has a Mediatek chipset, etc.

The DVR-X162Q should be based on the same drive design as the DVR-2920Q... which was a DVR-216R/DVR-216MBK.

Ah ha!

That explains why Vista loaded the DVR-216 drivers when I connected the 162.
Only problem, drive would not accept media and spin up,

So, I guess that I'll still get the 162, but not from Amazon.

I found comments citing the shoddy packing of drives purchased from Amazon.
As I recall, the comment was under the Western digital Caviar Green.

I checked prices, Amazon lowered price to $94.59 from $100.80, again no shipping charge.

Being a glutton for punishment, I again ordered from Amazon.

I got the 2nd DVR-X162Q.

At least this one spins up.

I'll start a separate thread about the DVR-X162Q.

I don't know if Pioneer offered an external version of that drive.
