Recommend a DVD burner from those

Postby Goodfella_no4 on Mon Nov 07, 2005 6:44 pm

What the hell is the difference betwen DVD+R and DVD-R? Which is more widely avaialble? Which is more reliable? Which is cheaper? Which is more widely available in DL format?

There is a LG, a BenQ, a Sony, an ASUS, a Lite-On and a NEC. All are 16x in DVD +/- R. 8x in DVD+RW. 6x in DVD-RW. But they differ in:

The LG (4163B): it has DVD-RAM and 4x DVD + R (DL) only

The BenQ (Don't remember): 8x DVD + R (DL) only

The Sony (DRU800) and the NEC (3520): 4x DVD +/- R (DL)

The ASUS (1608P): 6x DVD +/- R (DL)

The Lite-On (don't remember): 4x DVD + R (DL) only

Now which should I buy? The BenQ is the cheapest at EP 300, follwed by LG (330), NEC and Lite-On (430) and Sony and ASUS (450). All prices are in Egyptian Pounds and I am not converting them into dollars. I am lazy! And besides, just look at the figures and tell me what you think.

I need an answer, pronto!!!

Please don't offer other types.

I recommend the following

#1 suggestion: BenQ DW1640
#2 suggestion: The ASUS (1608P): 6x DVD +/- R (DL) (but flashed with a Pioneer firmware)
#3 suggestion: The LG (4163B): it has DVD-RAM and 4x DVD + R (DL) only
Punch Cards -> Paper Tape -> Tape Drive -> 8" Floppy Diskette -> 5 1/4" Floppy Diskette -> 3 1/2" "Flippy" Diskette -> CD-R -> DVD±R -> BD-R
