Problem burning a DVD image

Postby infini on Tue Oct 25, 2005 3:26 am

I open Nero to burn the image, from "recorder->burn image" but when i select the cue file, under "burn compilation" tab the "CD" option is preselected and i can't change it to "DVD" in order to burn the image. I have Nero 6.6.0.15

are you trying to burn a .bin file with a .cue sheet?
i'm not sure if you can do this to a DVD.

Yeah, if its a bin/cue its most likely a CD image.

So how can i burn the image? I don't want to extract it because the DVD label exceeds the limit of the characters that you are allowed to put when creating a dvd compilation in Nero.

probably won't fit on a CD then.
i don't know about bin/cue files so can't help much.
you can update to Nero 6.6.0.16 but i don't believe it will help.

how long is the DVD label ?
when burning an image in Nero you don't have an option of choosing the label.
in a regular compilation, the ISO9660 label can be 32 chars long. not long enough ?

You could try mounting the BIN file with Nero Image Drive (or another such tool) which allows you to access the data as if it were on an optical drive. Then you can create a new DVD data compilation with Nero itself from the data on this "drive" and burn that to a DVD.

yeah, but isn't this basically the same as extracting the data from teh .bin file, which infini said in his 2nd post he doesn't want to do ?

I guess it is as far as label length is concerned. But it does avoid copying the files to your hard drive again. Anyway, if DVD-Decrypter does the job, this is a moot point.

I tried DVD Decrypter. I still have the same problem. In the main window of the program, i get label minus the last letter wihich is the same as Nero. The label is 17 letters. As for what dodecahedron wrote about the ISO9660 label that can be 32 characters long, if you choose new compilation and go to the label tab, there are two places to put a label: ISO 9660 and Joliet. The label that nero finally burns is the Joliet with maximum character length fo 16 characters, no matter what label name you write in the ISO9660.

what are the names of the files extracted from the .bin file?
if they are all 8.3 format, you can burn with ISO9660 and no Joliet, that way you get the ISO9660 label.

i'm not sure, but i think it burns both labels. otherwise why would Nero ask for separate labels for ISO9660 and Joliet? but i'm guessing that Windows chooses to display the Joliet label.

for the life of me i can't understand why the Joliet limit of label length is more restrictive than the ISO9660 one :o
