American Idol - Season 3

This is primarily for the Americans out there.

If you've been living in a cave the last few months, season 3 of American Idol starts this week. After watching it the last few nights, I think they're getting pretty hard up to find good singers. The ones this season are absolutely horrible.

Thoughts? Discuss!

I just watched tonights episode from Houston and I can't believe some of these people think they can sing and then go on camera afterward to cry and curse the judges.
Quality entertainment....oh by the way....Dave Chapelles new season starts tonight and every Wed. at 10:30pm on Comedy Central.

I've heard better singers in high school! Case in point, a local girl sang the National Anthem before my old high school's hockey game. She has an amazing voice for a teenager!

I haven't watched the German equivalent (I'm probably too old for this stuff ) but I'm convinced the crappy singers I've heard about are every bit as bad as yours!

Believe me MediumRare,I'm not proud of the crappy music we dole out here.I can't wait till this Timberlake,Spears,N-Sync crap goes away.As a whole,I haven't heard a GREAT album in probably 5 or 6 years.

I've never watched the show, but that Clay Aiken...boys got some pipes. This is coming from a metalhead. Damn...I must be getting old.

F1, did you watch World Idol? They had the "Idols" from all different countries. The guy from Belgium (I think) was a metal head. Long 80's hair and all. The guy was good too.

OMFG! Hahahahah! I didn't expect that response from ya, Ian! May I ask why Clay irritates you? He DOES look like Opie...don't expect that voice to come out from him. Kinda like how back in the 80's there was that Rick Astley dude. For the longest time, I thought he was black. Personally, I've never heard Ruben sing. Does he get any radio play? Maybe I've heard a song or two from him and didn't know it.

Clay can sing like a mofo.. he just didn't seem sincere. The whole time he was on American Idol it seemed like a total act to me. Very fake.

Ruben reminds me of a young Barry White. Give him another 10 years. Women will be throwing their panties up on the stage when he sings. Unlike with Clay, the panties will probably be flying in his dressing room as well.

I haven't heard Ruben on the radio... then again, I don't listen to the top 40 or R&B radio stations.

I agree.He can sing but he won't last.Like David Cassidy or some lamo like that.The other guy(Ruben)can sing also but I would like to hear him without all the backup singers he has.Most of them drown out his songs.(I don't listen to him he's just on all the talk shows recently)
World Idol proved that you don't need looks to win that's for sure.My channel changer never changed channels as fast as it did on that day I saw her.(the winner)uggghhhh!!!!

Who is the Belgian guy with long hair? Yngwie Malmsteen? F1Pilot knows who I'm talkin' about. Perhaps he dropped his guitar and decided to sing full-time. I don't think Yngwie is Belgian, and it's probably wrong of me to say so, but he reminds me of a stereotypical European with long hair. Not that Europeans usually have long hair, but the ones that do remind me of Yngwie.

Heh! Does he look like Yngwie?? If he does, I feel sorry for him. Funny thing is that I went to his site coupla nights ago to see what he was up to (was listening to Marching Out)...the boy looks rough. And yeah...he dropped the guitar...just looks like it hit him square in the face. Hard.

I liked his first 2 CDs. While his playing is clean and awesome, his tone gets to me...no personality to his sound. Do you play guitar or at least dabble with it? Jason Truby has new sound that's amazing...my perfect tone. Now that he's in a new environment, he shines.

Watch a morning show or a talk show soon and he'll be on it.You'll see that he has 3 backup's that sing right along with him.Most of his stuff is with them singin' along and drownin' out a lot of his voice.I don't believe he's gospel.I'd classify him as R&B like Brian Mcknight or some music in the same vain(not a fan).
Rising Force was Yngwee's best but I agree,his sound has no personality.Like Bach playing Motley Crue or something.Like plenty of other artists,most of his albums sound the same.Just the same ole rehashed classical stuff he brings up then arranges differently.He can play but so can a lot of other's.He'll never capture what he had in '84 again.

I agree with you 100%! Yngwies spotlight has moved on...right on about just rearranging what he plays. Paganini was awesome to listen to because of him, but it was over quick.

Have you ever listened to country music? Some of those guitarists shred! Imagine piping them through a Triple Recto! I'm sure there would be a lot of objection! heh!

Yeah,Vince Gill can stone rawk a guitar when he wants.He's so talented it's scary.What's even scarier is that he's a better guitar player than a singer.He's a shredder for sure.Also other notables from the world of Nashville:Ricky Skaggs(unbelievably fast and technical player)and The guitarist for Alan Jackson(man he's got the riffs).I actually think it might be against the law to play through a Triple Rectifier in country music!!! They have to stick with the normal Fender Twins and Showman's and what not.Any distortion means Jailtime!!! I think they could get away with playing a Mesa Heartbreaker though.It can get clean and it can get rather nasty!!!!!

He's a fantastic guitarist and musician.The guy is just talented.Total shred head and songwriter to boot.Problem with him though is that this music gets old along with him.His stuff was fresh back in the 80's but he stuff now sounds all the same.I'm a fan of his 80's stuff bigtime.I like it all.I just scored his "black" album a few weeks ago(very,very rare).

Torres Engineering has been around for ages. They apparently have really good mod kits. You're right about geting a tone without going broke. Sounds like a good setup you have there! But yeah, amp tone is key. In fact, I just got a Triple. I'm going to pick up a Recto Recording Pre for simple studio tracking.

I remember seeing a store by that name in Marietta. I'm not sure if they're still in business, but from what I remember, they had a lot of nice toys. A friend of a friend is opening a vintage quitar place somewhere. Not sure when that's going to happen. I like to LOOK at vintage.

They're in Smyrna.Was looking for a Mosrite ventures at the time but they wanted a minimum of $1500 for that axe and I said,naahhhhhhhh.Actually I'm quite sad today.Stayed up till 2 in the morning this morning playing a friends Mesa Nomad.He had a piece of crap Yamaha axe but it didn't matter,that amp made the difference.Amazingly loud amp!!!!!I fear touching my Fender Pro Junior now for it's not in the same class.That Triple rectifier costs a few nickels that's for sure!!!!! Went to Dallas guitar show in October and looked at some Bogner's,they are what I aspire to in the vein of a cabinet and a head.My fantasy amp is a RIG,Crest 4801 pa amp,mesa boogie studio preamp(don't make anymore)and a couple of Marshall cabs.Sheer power.1800 watts.I'll go deaf in 23 secons at level 2!!!!!!!Amp tone is everything!!!!!
The Prince "Black" album I got from a source who works in a used cd store.He lets me know everything that comes that's any good.I've been scouring the DFW area for certain cd's but he generally get's me the good stuff.Just a few odd pieces missing here and there.That's why I don't listen to the radio or American Idol'it,I have too much music I haven't listened to here.
That torres site has everything there.High praise from other sources online to.Must be good.They remind of some companies called Soldano & Kendrick.Put out bit@#!** amps,pedals and mods but not enough to saturate the market like Boss,Fender etc....
