I'm totally offended(not really)!!!!Looks like it might still work in a pinch . If that's a dial up modem I'm still usin' one . I'm like way to poor to afford the broadband stuff.Maybe someday.
I've got an artifact in the attic that's makes that hardware pictured look like the new Blue Ray!!!

I have an Everex 386SX-20Mhz with an 80 Mb Hard-drive and 8Mb of memory that I bought back in 1991 for 1500.00. It still runs and runs on Windows 3.1 and it has a modem that I think runs at 2400. Don't know if that qualifies it as a relic.

We found a number of Z80-based 8-bit ISA VNA terminal emulation cards in the stores cupboard at work last week. I think they must have dated back to the early 1980s. More chips on this board than you could shake a stick at

When I used to do tech consulting for UofM's School of Natural Resources, they had an 8" floppy drive with a small box of 8" floppy disks lying in a pile of hardware. Yup, that's right. 8" floppy... before the 5.25"!

i've still got a Radio Shack PC-2 (that's Pocket Computer for those of you who don't know).



purchased in 1983.
complete with the Tape interface and 4-color Plotter! that was extremely cool at the time.



everything working last time i checked. i even got quite a few spare paper rolls and replacement ink pens for the plotter!

i have difficulty in letting it go.

not much you can do with BASIC and 1850 bytes of memory.

oh yeah i forgot in addition to the 1850 bytes it came with built-in, i got a 4K memory module for it.



believe it or not, i used to program this thing in Assembly langauge. PEEK and POKE. oh my god...

my trusty old Apple IIe was tossed to the trash some 4 years ago. along with its monochrome monitor, dual 5.25" disc drives, 80 column card and 512KB memory expansion card. also Epson FX-80 printer.

at the same time my Texas Instruments TI-99/4A was tossed to the trash.
that was my first computer...really loved it.

I had a TI as well -- or at least my dad had one. I recall that without the BASIC expansion pack, you couldn't get access to the machine code... joyous days!! Wasn't the TI the world's first 16-bit computer or somesuch? But then they made it just about the slowest machine of all time by running the BASIC interpreter through the graphics chip because there wasn't enough memory or something.

I had a Sinclair ZX80 and 81 as well. 1K memory, low-res, b/w graphics (which could be made hi-res by clever manipulation of the graphics subsystem via high-speed memory flips), no sound (although you could coax sound out of it by manipulating the tape-drive output!!) and a BASIC where the contents of the screen would disappear when it was "thinking". Bless.

OMFG!!! I used to have one of those "Trash 80's"!!! I had a Vic-20, Commodore-64, Amiga 500, IIc, Heath "build it yerself" deals. Nice 80 post! *thumbs up*

the Commodore 64 was one cool computer.
terribly expensive (here at least). didn't know anyone who actually had one.
Vic 20 was nice too.

Wasn't there an article not too long ago saying that a mobo manufacturer was re-introducing an ISA slot back onto their mobo again?

I think Soyo is selling an Intel 845 chipset board with ISA slots.

Personally, I haven't used an ISA slot for quite a while (except for the ones in my "ancient artifact": a 486 computer from 1993). However, I was using an ISA modem in my main computer as recently as 2002, but I eventually switched to PCI (and then switched to none when I got broadband).
