How do i burn mini CDs!!

I am interested in buying one of those mini CD-MP3 players like the Teac MP-330. But how do you go about burning these CDs?? I don't think you can do that using regular CD-R/RW drives so how do you do it?

Open the tray of your CD-RW. See that smaller cutout in the tray? That is for the 8cm CD's.

Most drives can write these discs.

Can these 24x burners write to them....how do I find out if they do before I make a purchase. Specifically, do the following support writing and reading mini-discs:

Liteon 24/10/40
Yamaha CRW3200
Plextor 24/10/40

Any help would be appreciated!!

Are these mini CD-R mp3 players really a lot less expensive than a minidics walkman? And you can record on a minidisc walkman too...

Aye but minidisc only holds about 74 minutes of music, same as a CD (the MD long play stuff is crap for music.. passable for narration) Its also compressed, using Sonys own Atrac3 format.. similar to Mp3, though supposedly higher quality.

A miniCD full of Mp3s is still a lot more music than a normal audio CD or minidisc.

Hoping someone here might know where to get the 300MB 8cm CD-R is the U.S.

I have only found them on asian and european sites, too expensive with conversion rates and shipping!

I'm pretty sure I've seen them on the shelves at my local CompUSA. The compusa.com site is down right now, so I can't confirm, but try taking a look there.

By the way, the capacity seems to be about 200 MiBytes (I saw figures ranging from 185 to 210), not 300 MiBytes.

I think mini 3 inch CD-Rs are worthless. A cute little toy unless you have one of those mini walkmans. Why buy a 10 pack of them for 4-to-7.99 when you can get a 50 pack of regular 5 inch CD-Rs under 5 dollars after rebate at most superstores??

They are designed for special applications, and not intended as a general purpose substitute for a full-size CD-R. And at least one of the retailers in the above links is selling a spindle of 50 for $15, so they aren't quite as expensive as you portray them. Anyway, there is no need to knock them just because you have no use for them.

Presently I use the 8cm (80mm) CDs in an Aiwa XP-Z3C http://www.us.aiwa.com/default.asp?page ... t&prod=379

I have used Imation (8cm, 180MB) or Memorex (8cm, 185MB?), it "struggles" with Memorex (8cm, 210MB).

Not sure about 300MB on an 8cm CD-R/CD-RW, I would think it's pushing it a bit with the grooves being extremely narrow, drives may have trouble reading the contents of these discs.

The 8cm CDs are great for carrying data, if the amount of data is approximately 185MB or 210MB, it's perfect and I usually close the session on the disc. If greater than 210MB, then I will use a 650MB / 700MB capacity CD-R and leave the disc open for additional sessions.

the new minidisc players (Sony MZ-N series, other brands too?) can play wav, mp3, wma formats ... so they too can play lots of music on one minidisc.
