Car wax recommendations requested! Thanks :)

I was wondering which car wax other members here use and recommend.

I would like something that:
1) performs well (protects well and increases shine)
2) is long-lasting
3) doesn't contain ingredients that are too harsh (don't want it to damage the car's finish).


I have heard Zymol (seemed like a good wax) doesn't last long.
I don't feel like having to wax more than 2 - 3 times per year,
if possible.

I also used to use Nu Finish (was recommended by Consumer Reports YEARS ago though).

Also:
Should I use a cotton terry cloth/towel to apply the wax
and then a soft cotton 'polishing' flannel cloth to remove it?

I've always used mother's carnauba or maguires carnauba applied with the foam pad that it comes with(if it's polish in a can)or a soft cotton towel and wipe it off with another soft cotton towel.I've used Nu Finish to and it doesn't last as long as it says it will.

I like to use a kind that claims UV protection. I'll check in my garage when I get home.

I'm still using my first wax Zymol. I'm not sure about how long it lasts as my car is fairly new. So far I've done 3 wax jobs over the last 9 months.

I use a terry pad to apply the wax.
I tend to wax it back and forth and not in a circular pattern along the front/rear axis of the car.
I buff it out with a soft Microfibre cloth.

Looks good. It isn't meant to shine though.

I could've used the Mother's or Meguires 3 step process but I just don't have that kind of time.

I like Zymol. I use their sponge micro applicators, buf out with a soft towel, spray the paint with a water bottle, then rewipe. Seems like the rewipe with the water right after waxing gives it a "deeper" look. But then again, it is 4am right now.

I posted the question in another forum (not a cdr site; a hot deals site),
and their recommendations are very similar, except that noone here mentioned Zaino, which seems to be amazing, although it seems to take a lot of work.

I want something long lasting, and Mother's was mentioned as being long-lasting by someone who lives in a harsh climate in Western NY.
HOWEVER, Action Jackson, here, mentions that BOTH Mother's and Meguiar's are 3 step processes.
I don't have the time to go through that myself.

I am not overly concerned with the BEST possible shine (I want a very good shine of course, like anyone).
I want something to protect my car from the elements.
Its color is already not that hard to make look good (steel gray, as opposed to bright red or black e.g. which seem harder to make shine.

I like Slim's recommendation about somethign that protects against UV.

The problem too, is that manufacturers can claim a lot, and we are left to trust their claims (e.g. last longest, special/enhanced protection against UV light [sun] damage).

My goals:
Get something that:
1) provides LONG-LASTING protection
2) is easy to apply and remove (not a drawn out process)
3) provides a good shine
