CPU speed for Plextor.......

Postby capridude on Sat Jan 03, 2004 4:47 am

I'm interested in getting a Plextor PX-708UF (USB) dualformat DVD.

Only one problem for me, and that is that my computers run 600 and 1000
Mhz respectively. Plextor mentions a minimum CPU speed of 700.
Would the unit run at all on the 600Mhz computer, or just very slowly?
Or perhaps it would bog and create coasters continually?

Otherwise I may consider the Sony DRX510ul, which I've heard has some
quality issues? It does allow for 500Mhz machines however....

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Most times the recommendations count for the software which is delivered with the drive.

I don't know what Pioneer recommended for the A06/106D drive but I know it was quite more then I use but it's doing fine in the good old PII 450 mhz.

The drive will work on the 600Mhz system, but you will get burn-proof events and a bit longer recording time when doing DVD+R. It won't be able to sustain the throughput for 8x recording and will stop as the buffer in the drive empties. No coasters, but a bit longer recording time than the 1Ghz system.

Thanks for the replies!
Looks as though it's do-able, if too slow I could
quit all but Explorer and Systray to free it up a bit.
