Need help

Postby ATH on Tue Jan 06, 2004 7:45 pm

I am sure this has been asked before but...

I am buying a new DVD burner... Sony DRU-500A -r/rw +r/rw

I need to backup my 6yo daughters DVD movies (they get scratched you know). What media should I use (brand, +/-, etc...)? Also what software will I need so that these backups can be played on a standalone DVD player that says it can play the DVD R/RW?

I have never seen anything about this, so what ever you can tell me will help. Thanks

Jason

media doesn't matter, buy either one. I suggest -R they are cheaper

also do you know about DVD-9 and DVD-5

DVDs you buy at store are DVD-9 (they can hold about 8.5 gigs ), where DVD-5 holds 4.7 gigs. Anyways. Your Daughters Movies can not copy over like a CD to a CD-R. You have to do some shrinking or put the movie on 2 discs

or

also i hope your drives are in NTFS and not FAT32

I must also say to you that before you buy the drive you should read reviews of other drives because the Sony burners tend to have media compatibility problems. Chech out in the forum and you'll find good posts and opinions on the drives...

i 100% agree with the sony's being media picky

my dru510a sony was horrible, id opt for like a tkd 840g (plextor made)

or

Memorex dual-x1 (pioneer made 106)

both are great drives and you can find them very cheap

as far as media goes, go for these:

MSI MEG Prospect 700R Case
be quiet! Straight Power 1200 Platinum PSU
ASRock X870E Taichi Mobo
AMD Ryzen 7 9800x3D CPU
Corsair Dominator Titanium 2x32GB 6000MHz
MSI RTX 4090 Liquid Suprim X
