ND-2500A is also produced in Malaysia. I wonder how much they charge in Malaysia.

$135 + $15.07 fedex express shipping = $150.07

as soon as I receive the drive I will take pics, screenshots

When will you be receiving the drive? I can't wait till you post up your benchmarks!

Does this drive come right out of the box with 8X -R and 4X -RW support, or is this a firmware update in the future ???.

Has anyone seen any 8X -R or 4X -RW media for sale yet ??

Since I'll be using a DVD burner for CDs also, the 32X CD-R burn is a problem for me. If it remains at 32X and not 40X like some of the others, then I won't be getting this one.

I got a notification today that mine shipped. I don't know how to benchmark though so I will leave that to you. I will give a burning time for my first data dvd though.

Got mine a couple days ago. Tried Beall 4x dvd-r only burn at 4x. Also tried verbatim datalife 4x +r and they burn at 4 x also.

I would like to find media that burns at 8x so please post back with 8x burns.

So far the only ones I have heard of are the -r (TYG01) -r (MCC01 RG20) +r (YUDEN 000T01) and 6x +r (RICOHJPNR01).

The Pioneer 4X DVD-R (PVCR001002) also burns at 8X on the NEC ND-2500A, but they are much harder to find in the US than the Taiyo Yuden discs. If you are lucky to have a Fry's store near you, you could find the Fujifilm 10-pack 4X DVD-R discs made by Taiyo Yuden for $19.99, probably the lowest regular price in any retail stores.

Anyone figure out how to dump the firmware of this drive yet? If you figure out how to do this please let me know how you did it.

Thanks

Do you happen to have a Liteon drive as well? If you do, maybe you can try to do some Kprobe scan on medias such as TY or Ritek. Thx

different chipset

Postby pigpenz on Tue Dec 30, 2003 12:45 pm

tried to do a firmware dump for herrie but the nec1x00.exe from dangerous brothers wont do it
then read that it has an entirely different chipset so firmwares hacks will prolly be a while....
and to the other poster works out of the box :)

I also have a Plextor 708a......the nec2500a at 8x is a little slower by about 30 secs...but you cant beat the price thats for sure :)

ewiz is good though too, and cheaper than mwave.

I have had positive experiences with ewiz so far. Only thing is it's a pain to ship to a different address than your billing address.

pigpenz what media did you use?
