Hi,

I recently bought an lg 4520 dvd combo. This drive is master on second ide. On the other drive my udma100 hd is master and cdrom is slave. Dma is on for all drives. (cdrom and combo are on udma 2 mode) When i try to copy a cd on the fly, it takes about 7.5 minutes. If i write from hd it takes about 2.5 minutes. (My mobo is asus p4p800 with 2.6 mhz intel cpu, i am using nero 5.5) Before buying this drive i had lg8160 and i could copy cds on the fly in about 5.5 minutes with the same configuration. All i did was to remove 8160 and insert 4520 instead.
What can be the reason?

How fast is the CD-ROM drive you are copying from? And, how fast are you burning on-the-fly recordings? I would not recommend burning on-the-fly at full speed. If you have a 52X CD-ROM drive, for example, knock the recording speed down to 32X, maybe even 24X. I sometimes do on-the-fly copying with my 48X CD-ROM drive and I always record at 24X (half the speed of my CD-ROM). It sounds like you are burning faster than your CD-ROM drive can read, therefore knocking the burning speed down should help.

Sorry. Forgot to write. My cdrom is an 50x asus drive. When i copy on the fly i use the max speed available for the cd. I do not think that i am trying to write with a speed over cdrom's capacity as it is an 50x udma33 drive. But i will take your suggestion and copy a cd on the fly with lower speed ie 32x or 24x and see if it works. Thanks.

I did the same exact upgrade as you, and had the same problem. I think I ended up changing the jumper over to computer select, I dont remember If I did anything else to fix the problem.

Hi,

I copied a cd on the fly with 24x and it took half the time compared with 40x. Seems like TheWizard is right. I will also copy with other speeds and find out the fastest speed to copy on the fly.

Hello!

A friend burns 48x on the fly :)

Do you have the two drives on the same IDE-cable? This doesn´t works good for otf-copying
Benq DW 1640 and 1650 , Plextor PX-755, Pioneer BDR-208 and 209D, LG GH24NSC0, LG BH16NS40 and 16NS55, Liteon ihas 124F and 324F, Pioneer DVR-215 and S21, Samsung SH-224DB and 224GB, and some more

Hi,

My config is like this:
udma 100 wd hd master on ide 1
asus 50x cdrom slave on ide 1 (udma mode 2)
4520b master on ide 2(udma mode 2)
Nothing is connected to ide2 slave.

I have win xp pro with sp1 installed. My mobo is asus p4p800 with 2.6 mhz intel cpu and use nero 5.5.5.10 for burning.

What is your friend's configuration?
