Sorry can't give a over-the-counter solution. But can you tell:
When did this problem start? / Did you always have it? / What is the last major change you did (software, firmware update) before this problem starated?
Is the drive new or how long you have been using it?
How many different CD-Rs have you tried to read? and any of them were successful or all failed.
If the drive is new and the all cdrs failed is the answer for last question, then it's possible that there is a problem with your drive.
HTH.
Stone walls do not a prison make,
Nor iron bars a cage;
Minds innocent and quiet take
That for an hermitage;
If I have freedom in my love,
And in my soul am free,
Angels alone that soar above
Enjoy such liberty. - Richard Lovelace
