Firmware Flashing DD0401: Tempting Fate !

Postby Gazza on Tue Dec 16, 2003 10:06 am

So I went ahead and flashed my Optorite DD0401's firmware to the latest version 120E in windows, (pre-updated never had a problem) and now I am unable to burn a dvd or even simulate with Nero 6.0 or 6.3 versions.
The drive reads a burnt dvd fine that I made but just fails in the burning process.
I saved the logfile and sent an email to tech support, figure I might get the original firmware for it.
One other strange thing I notice is that in my system event viewer I notice a lot of errors all pertaining to the cdrom device, saying this drive has a "bad block" and of course microsoft had diddly squat on the matter that I could find.
ok end of rant !

I've got the same drive, and have the updated firmware-everythings working great on mine.

Will the firmware flash program let you re-flash the drive (with the same firmware)?

Hope you get the problem fixed!
Soon to be proud user of Mandrake 10 (again!). SuSE 9 sucks!

I shall try again later tonight when I get home, It's one of those things you do and afterwards think "now why did I go and do that when it was working perfectly fine before" !
BurningMan did you flash yours in windows also or did you update yours via boot disk ?(EDIT oops nevermind I see theyonly have the windows version on the site)

Try removing the device from device manager and restarting...

Tried removing device and same issue, one thing I did notice is that I was able to see 8x option in Nero once I had updated the firmware but after running a simulation burn it would always give me an error whether it was 8x or 4x simulation.
I just got the 100E firmware from Tech support and have installed it and only see 4x option in Nero now :(.
Still having same issues tho
Edit: managed to burn a disk @4x which turned out completely useless, I guess this is what you get for pissing around with JUNK (knew I should have bought that plextor ;) ) lol
