How is the lite on 811s

Postby kirpen on Mon Dec 15, 2003 11:42 am

:( I'm thinking about getting a new dvd burner and was wondering how the lite on is. I read about a lot of problems with the 4x model that may have been fixed with firmware. Is the 811 a good drive? BTW I dont buy media online so all my discs will be name brand if that matters.

Check cdrinfo, they did a review of it over the weekend. I haven't read it so I can't tell you what they said.

I wouldn't use -R with Lite On dual format writer unless you really needed in that case use TY since they seem to perform much better as most other -R media on Lite ON's.

For the +R users which sometimes burn a -R disc the Lite On is quite okay.
But for the real -R users I think it's better to get something else (Pioneer A06 or if you can life with 2x recording speed on cheap -R media the LG GSA-4040. If you only buy A brands for -R media you could also use the Plextor 708 which is known to be able to burn -R media very good as long as it's officially supported and made by the better manufacturers(TY/MCC/Maxell))

well, my experience has been that people i make movies for use dvd-r's, way more than people who use dvd+r

and for the people who can use dvd+r, they can use dvd-r as well in there dvd tv player

as for media, i buy my ritek 4x dvd-r's at $1.11 per disk, its near impossible to buy media at that cost in the stores, if so then its like a special with mail in rebate or once every 3-4 months, i burn way to much to go that long with no media

i put probably close to 150 - 200 dvd-r's through this plextor 708a a month, never hiccuped once

seeing as you burn so much, i'm surprised you don't get another DVD burner...another Plextor! :D

hoxlund,

I got 100 disks for 95 cents a piece in the store. Now, can you beat that with your online shopping (equivalent media) No, I didn't think so. He's smart for buying his media in the store, because if it doesn't work or something, you just return it at no cost to you, you just tell them it didn't work.

I like to get my DVD-R media online (RITEKG04), as I know what I am buying and I only buy from trusted places, but, if something doesn't work for some odd reason, returning it would be a real pain.
