If you get the Plextor now, you won't have to upgrade later when you end up wanting an 8X dvd-burner.

ive been looking at the plextor but may hold off till pioneer comes out with thier 8x +- recorder. if plextor can be updated with firmware for 8x - id definatly go that way. is this confirmed? or just speculation.

this is my first post i know, but ive been reading here for about a month. thanks for any info

Plextor official statement is: We don't know if it's possible because the specs and the media are not there yet.

Plextor hasn't confirmed anything yet about supporting -R for this drive.
Normally Plextor wouldn't be the companny which would give you such a free update however there is some change they might do.
But still it's gambling.
