There are about 2000 varieties of them according to my Korean friends. As a foerigner I can eat about two~three types. For my years in Korea, yet to meet a Korean who doesn't like or can live without Kimchi. Btw, Kimchi was hailed as the secret weapon of Korea against SARS. Truth aside, Korea was maybe the only country in the region which was fortunate enough not to report a single case of SARS.

Btw, nice Pics Kennyshin. Where did you take them? Yongsan or Liteon Heaven?

Wow, that's an incredible number of Lite-On drives there; I also couldn't help noticing that the computer in the pictures had Lite-On drives in it, too. :)

AFAIK no credible study on this issue has been done. Because Korea was immune to SARS during it's peak, somehow Kimchi emerged as a winner.

Whether this belief is true or a market exploitation by Kimchi makers, remains to be seen.

I have no idea. I don't seriously think there is any connection. It was probably just because South Korea is more protected than most other East Asian countries. It is also true that some nationalistic South Koreans like to say how superior kimchi is over Japanese-invented yogurt. :D

Samsung, LG, and other major consumer electronics giants in South Korea take kimchi refrigerator market very seriously because of profit potential. Most latest units cost nearly US$1000 each and newly married couples always buy them. It's a fresh phenomenon in South Korean electronics market and something only feasible in South Korea. But mine costs just 230,000 won or a little under US$200.

I don't know much about pregnancy but my wife seems to be happy just with kimchi and me.

In a Lite-On heaven in Yongsan. You can also visit there anytime. He knows you, too.

The important part was not about some 100 Lite-On drives but that though 2MB image files are coming from a web server linked to an almost-free bandwidth.

I did note that, and I am duly impressed. South Korea is way ahead of America when it comes to broad-band Internet access. You'll have to forgive us non-Koreans, though, for being more intrigued with the whole concept of a dedicated Kimchi refrigerator. :D

I second F1Pilot's question: what the heck do these units do to justify a $1000 price tag? :o Do they really preserve Kimchi better than a regular old refrigerator?

LOL! I'm sorry, guys. Was I the one who started to get off topic here? My bad.

I don't know anything about it, but this one looks cool. Hold it steady, cfitz...I'll cut a hole in the side so that we can put a window on it with some neon. Would make a nice PC case, eh?
