First off, let me say "Hello" to everyone here. Yes, I'm new to this forum. However, I'm not new to the world of multimedia. After much researching and debating, it has come to my attention that the general consensus favors the Lite-On 166S for its speed and compatibility. As for its ability to generally read various copyrighted/protected discs in all shapes and forms; it appears that there's still debate over that in comparison to other drives. Having read the majority of the posts in this forum and others like club cdfreaks, I've come to the above understanding. I sure hope that most would agree and help me out. I made the decision to purchase this drive today from
www.3gplaza.com using pricewatch.com. The retail box for a black drive including shipping, taxes, etc... came to $31. Not Bad in my opinion for such a reputable drive! This drive will be my first Lite-On drive. Therefore, I would welcome any suggestions for generally what is considered as the best overall firmware for fast ripping of audio files, movies, etc.... If possible I would like the same firmware or firmwares to include the ability to make the drive region free as well. I realize that performance will be dictated by my system, its configuration, etc... I also realize that there are links to particular sites mentioned by various posts to consult. However, consulting and experience/application are two different things in my book. From this, the reason is obvious why I chose to post for help in this forum for the people here appear to have both. Anyhow, enough of this rhetoric. Those who can help in any manner, please let me know at your convenience. Your help is greatly appreciated, and I look forward for replies.
