Some quick Optorite DD0401 HD-BURN results

Postby BurninMan921 on Thu Dec 11, 2003 8:29 pm

Drive: Optorite DD0401
Firmware: V120E (latest)

Disc: Maxell CD-R Pro -
Manufacturer : Taiyo Yuden
Code : 97m24s01f
Disc Type : CD-R
Usage : General
Recording Layer : Dye Type 1: Long Strategy (Cyanine, AZO)
Recording Speed : n/a
Capacity : 79:59.72
703 MB
Additional Capacity : n/a
Overburn Capacity : not tested

Amount Burned: 1.35GB (of 1406MG) (157:58.47 according to CD Speed)
Burn Time: 7:33
CD-Speed scandisk: 100% damaged (!) - Is this a CD Speed, drive, or media problem? Quality Check shows average ~66K C2 errors, but read
speed stays high. I wanted this for HD-BURN, but if the discs are gonna be bad...

CD-Speed transfer rate test:
Start: 33.59x
End: 79.83x (!! SWEET !!)
Average: 60.31x

Um, time to make a Windows install disk on an HD-BURN disc!

OK, now: I need a server to post the screen grabs (and a quickie reminder on HOW...it's been awhile).

Oh yeah: Burn software was Nero 6.0.0.28. The HD-BURN disc will not read back on my Lite-On 166S, either :(

Burning a Maxell (Ritek) 48x rated disc now...

Ian, if this should be in the DVD forum please move it. I posted here since
I'm just testing HD-BURN, which (unfortunatly) is CD-only...

What is your overall impression of the DD0401?
I'm thinking of buying one.

Thanks

Ritek results: same as above.

And for burninfool:
So far so good! I like it. Kinda ugly, but hey. Also somewhat of a "bare" package, though. Other than the drive, you get:
Nero (5.5 I would guess-I already have 6 installed, so not touching it)
PowerDVD on the Nero CD (ver ??-got it too)
Sonic MyDVD 4.0.4
A One-page quick-install "manual"
Some mounting screws
An audio cable

Thats it-no blank disks, no real manual. No biggie for me, though.

It's a fast burner, HD-BURN or not. I haven't yet tested it's DVD burning-I won't have discs until tomorrow.

A normal cd (Ritek) burned fine at 40x, CD-Speed showed the disc as 100% Good. Maybe the above issue is just because it was an HD-BURN disk. The drive doesn't seem to have any trouble reading it, though.

CD-Speed probably doesn't recognize the HD-Burn strategy (yet?). Looks like a fun drive. Too bad it's not available overhere.

Yeah, HD-Burn discs can only be read by drives supporting it. Unfortunately, that list is very short.

As far as CD Speed goes, try version 2.11. One of the changes for this version is: Improved support for HD-BURN discs

I moved your post btw.. just don't yell at me and call me names.

I just got my optorite 8x installed yesterday. I upgraded to the newest fireware. Maxell 40x Cd burned fine in HD mode. I guess the HDburning compatibility improved.

Is there any way to Test Burn dvd+rs?. I see that function is not availble with nero and my drive

No, not with any drive or software. The only way to test it and get a CD Speed Graph (which is what your looking for, right?) is to actually use the Create Data Disc option. Which uses the disc.

He he...opps! Yup, that's what I meant. Fixed the orginal message; thanks for catching it!

I still haven't tried any CD's besides the Riteks (Maxell) and TY's (Maxell, unbranded). I've got 300 TY's sitting here; Best Buy had Fuji's on sale :)
