Firmware upgrade req'd for DW-U10A-Which won't fry my drive?

Postby mondogord on Thu Dec 04, 2003 3:06 pm

Greetings,

Now that I have my first order of TY (4x) media from blankmedia.ca (thanks guys for the store info :) ). I need to get the upgrade for my U10A. I've read that it's the OEM of the 500 but I'm not sure which version as:

http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/ doesn't list my drive (I assume b/c it's a OEM) and there are a few 500's listed in the dropdown.

I've read since the U10A is a OEM of the retail 500 it can accept the firmware for one of the 500 at enable it to write + media @ 4x however if there is any chance of frying my U10A drive with a 500 firmware I'd be inclined to install the newer firmware for the U10A and stay at 2X writing since frankly I can't afford to replace a fried drive at this time.

Thanks for any info on which firmware I should install.

Gordon.
