Is LG/Hitachi is good as Lite-On?

Hi. Everyone in here may hate me after I post this. I thought about just keeping the 48x24x48x LG/Hitachi CD-RW that came with my Dell Pentium 4. All I really need is a CD-RW to back up Word documents and I guess a 52X32x52 CD-RW wouldn't access the Word documents that much faster? I don't do music or videos on my pc. I noticed my cd burner had a May 2003 manufacture date on it. I may give my brother my DVD-ROM drive I shouldn't have ordered that I ordered a front face plate from Dell to cover up the drive bay. If LG is just as good as Lite-On, you guys might not see me in here that much anymore. I guess CD-RW/DVD-ROM drives have gotten as fast as they can get so I wouldn't need to post news about those anymore in here and Ian keeps up the good work posting DVD Burner news. I have enjoyed this place alot. Thanks for all of the help guys.

Personally, I think LG drives are just as good as Lite-On. If your current drive works fine for you, there's probably no reason to upgrade. As it is, you're not really going to gain much by going from 48x to 52x. You would probably see a noticeable improvent with 32x rewriting speeds.. but without any 32x RW media, that's not going to help you.

Like Ian said, upgrading to a 52x32x52 would be a worthwhile upgrade only if you use CD-RW discs frequently. Personally, I really can't tell any difference in the CD-R speeds of my LTR-48125W and my LTR-52327Ss. The 52327S does have better recording quality, though.

Cool, thanks for the advice guys. I have decided just to keep my LG/Hitachi 48x24x48x burner, thats enough for me. I'm not going to get a DVD burner until I decide if I'm going to get my next PC with Windows Longhorn and Office Longhorn preinstalled on it. Maybe by then DVD Burners will be 20x or more for DVD+RW speeds.

And the time-differences with 52x and 48x are only a few seconds, and here in Germany I´ve never seen 32x CD-RW-media

That is true unless someone re-implements multi-beam technology for burning this time around. Kenwood is the only co. of which I'm aware that experimented with such technology in the case of cd-rom's, and they achieved some amazing disc throughput. A similar technology might be the trick for burning dvd's in 2 and a half minutes...who knows, just thinking out loud.

Verbatim Germany has said 32x media will be arround in the shops in Januari. Some bussiness partners can get 32x cd-rw media right now.

I also have a better experience with any LG-drives as with Lite On drives in my area. Still Lite On has K-probe !
