Who uses Taiyo Yuden? (Canadian preferred but price rules)

Postby mondogord on Mon Nov 24, 2003 9:13 pm

Greeting,

I just got a dvd burner (Sony U10A) and was wondering what makes use Taiyo Yuden currently and/or if there is a good on-line source. Canadian would be preferred for on-line with customs and all but will consider all sources be it online or retail.

Thanks for any info.

Gordon.

Thanks. This is the site someone recommended on a Canadian board but thought I should do some shopping around. The non-imperical evidence seems to suggest these are the only/one of the few companies to sell them in Canada. I can't seem to find any of the Fuji DVDs in my area retail. Do any other brand names use TY DVDr's or is Fuji my only bet?

I have used 4X +R Memorex which you can get at best buy or futureshop and have had good luck with them.

I haven't seen any Fuji DVD-Rs, but I know that Fuji DVD+Rs are not made by Taiyo Yuden. I believe Verbatim Datalife Plus DVD-Rs are made by Taiyo Yuden though....??

blankmedia.ca is the only Canadian store that I know of that sells Taiyo Yuden DVDRs.

Taiyo Yuden (Thats) works perfectly with my Liteon 411. Highly recommended.

And in my soul am free,

Enjoy such liberty. - Richard Lovelace

I agree. Get them @ blankmedia.ca

his price is ok, and he's in Kitchener-Waterloo, not that far away from TO.

But I use the 4x Memorex +R discs. They're really Ricoh.

No problems yet.

Future Shop sells the 4x Memorex in spindles of 25 for $59.99 online.

Some are. But DVD-R datalife PLus can also be MCC which they are mostly !
For TY DVD+R's we can rely on Plextor here in Europe.

Instead of the Memorex from Future Shop you could buy the Arita +R 4x media which have the same RICOHJPNR01 media code from the aforementioned blankmedia.ca for about $2/DVD (taxes and shipping in).

A quick follow up: If the Datalife Plus are TY's is there anything on the package that would give it away (i.e. Made in Japan or the spindle screw to known on the Fuji cdr's)?

Still have not decided on what will be my regular source...just grabbing those Orange Made in Japan Maxell's from Future Shop for now.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

Cheers!

London Drugs sells Fujifilm DVDR, I bought a 5 pack of -R from there a week ago. They are TY discs. They do not, however, have any other packs (except for the 5), and are ~$16.99, which is about the same the Maxells sell for at FS.

Thanks!

The local Radio Shack as them in 3 pack and their 2x so I can use them right now till the campus bookstore installs the new firmware on my drive so I can burn the TY 4x media off of blankmedia.ca. Glad to be able to upgrade from the Maxell (though they do appear to be fine discs but I trust TY above all). :)

Cheers!
