What DVD drives do commercial companies use?

Does anyone know what kind of dvd drives do commercial companies use to burn their movies?What speed they burn at,software they use and from where do they get the dual layer media?

You mean movies that you buy in a store?

If you mean professional duplicators that do burning of DVDs for short runs of 300pcs or less (like what my company does...) then usually they are Pioneer bases.... but in some cases.....sony! ICK!!! :evil:

yeah the movies you buy in a store.Who makes their dual layer media and is their rippin' speed better than 8x etc..?

Dual layer media is currently only available in pressed disc form, which means you need to buy DVD manufacturing equipment in order to do it. This sort of equipment is VERY expensive, and not for the consumer user ...not even us media enthusiasts! :wink:

Hollywood does use dvd-r for storage and pre mastering befor creating the glass master.
And Pioneer is still number one in this market.
Also most duplicators use pioneer bases.
A very small amount switched to Sony when they were the first with a dual drive and they wanted to offer both formats.
As far as my info goes it's mostly Pioneer with a small percentage Sony and Plextor.

Thanx for the info fellow enthusiasts.My Plextor 708 burns fast enough so I'll not worry about manufacturers quality burners.I'm quite content with 8x and compression.

Faster is not allways better. Still the writing quality of the plextor 708 is nice !.

I've rip't 36 flix at 8x and coastered only 4.The coasters were due to the software and not the plextor.Not a bad ratio.I found memorex 4x dvd+r media at office max for $1.00 a piece so I can afford to not care as much about speed and foul up's.I'm having trouble with 1 movie but I'll figure it out hopefully,but the speed I burn at is great and I'm not gonna' complain.This plextor was worth the bread. A great investment!!!!!:)
