Sony DRU500a Ripping Problems

i keep getting I/O errors when i try to rip the from this drive...
rip speed is 0.1x to 0.8x
ever since my format something has been wrong with my machine..

Did the DMA for the Sony get changed to PIO mode only? I know it wont rip dvd movies any faster then 2x but I think audio is at least 24x clean with mine. Also maybe your cable is bad or not plugged in just right anymore. Is ASPI installed yet? Try a different disk just in case it doesn't like the slow one.
Just a few ideas to check that might be a problem.
