Lkg for good-sounding SACD disc (multi-channel).

I currently don't own any SACDs, but would like to try a multi-channel SACD disc out on my SACD-capable DVD player.

Anyone here try any?
Any recommendations are appreciated.
I would also like to know of the best places to get SACDs.

NOTE: Not all SACD discs are multi-channel (e.g. older releases).

Dark side of the moon is pretty good and it's been on sale cheaper then others. I really like the stereo tracks, the 5.1 is OK but I'm used to the way it always sounded It's a hybrid so it has cd tracks as well. Which player did you get, a Sony probably?
I just got the Pioneer 563a, it's a multiformat machine that does both SACD and DVD audio plus all the normal dvd player functions. Sounds good in both formats and the picture quality is great too.
Best Buy as far as a store has many titles for OK prices and they go on sale occasionaly. Thats also where I got the Pioneer for 170

I noticed that Pioneer in a catalog yesterday; it seemed great to me in that it does both SACD and DVD-A, which you pointed out, and costs under $180.

I wanted a big changer; I wasn't even looking for SACD, but it came with it

I checked some sites with posts about SACD:
I think I might get Norah Jones, Pink Floyd (if it is 5.1) and Roxy Music's Avalon, which got great reviews for sound quality and the music itself.

I found Norah Jones at J&R during lunch. I noticed this afternoon that BestBuy has it for $2 less. I'll check it out before my player arrives Monday.
I need to find Roxy Music's Avalon on SACD somewhere. I'll pay up for that one because it seems to be hard to find.

It does have 5.1 and sometimes it's pretty cool having the clocks and alarms all around you. It was the first Mobile Fidelity record I bought back in the day and it was a excellent analog copy in stereo of course so that's what I'm used to listening too and when I'm doing critical comparisons.
It does sound better then my normal cd version does. I also got O Brother Where are Thou and it's great but it's stereo only
Everyone recommends the Nora Jones one so it must sound really nice but I'm trying to place her music to know if I'll like it.
The Pioneer sounds great in both formats, I bought it the first week it was out, been looking for one since the old Apex 7701 fiasco of a few years ago.
The video quality is almost perfect also and it's playback of MP3 audio has been better then any of my other machines so far.
I just like being able to play properly anything they want to sell me, typical geek I guess

I didn't buy DSOTM, because they also had "The Wall Live" SACD Surround TWO disc set for only $16.99 or $17.99 (only a few dollars more than single discs).
It features the PF 'The Wall' songs performed by The Hooters, Sinead
O' Conner, Cyndi Lauper, Bryan Adams, Joni Mitchell, Scorpions,
Van Morrison, James Galway, Paul Carrack and Roger Waters himself.
I didn't buy it because I wanted to read some reviews before buying it.
I am having second thoughts about not picking it up today; oh well, I won't have the player till early next week anyway.

I found a treasure though, for me at least, which I picked up:
The Police 'Every Breath You Take - The Classics'.
The material is remastered.
It seems to be the only Police SACD with surround audio (5.1 channels); it also features most of their top hits!! It is also a 'hybrid' SACD - plays on a standard CD player. As you know, but others here might not, some of them only play on SACD
players (like 'The Wall, Live in Berlin').

I may get Nora Jones next week after I test the Police out in 5.1 when my Sony changer arrives.
The Nora Jones SACD was actually $3 less than J&R (only $13.99).

My amp "only" has optical and coaxial (digital) inputs for surround sound; it doesn't have the 5.1 RCA inputs required for SACD (surround).

Good thing I only bought one disc!!!

Well that really sucks. Most good amps have had 5.1 inputs for a while now. My old Sony had at least 4 inputs and it was a 92 model. It also had optical digital but only supported 48 khz and no Dolby Digital or DTS. I would still be using it otherwise, it sounded sweet. Was a d2070 Sony pro logic unit. I now have a Onkyo 777.
If you have enough amps around you could just use them to play the 5.1 outputs. We'd have proccesing in our units but the recording industry was afraid of pure digital signal getting out so they hobbled us with analog only outs for the format.

I just checked ebay and the same amp as mine (supposedly 'new' found in warehouse, even though it is a 1999 model) sold one week ago for almost double what I paid a year ago.
I saw a used one a year ago for almost double what I paid.
I will sell it and then "upgrade" (depending on how you look at it) to newer surround technology.
