Consensus on InCD 4072?

Postby Pilgrim on Thu Nov 06, 2003 10:05 pm

I just returned after a 3 weeks absence and noticed that InCD has been updated to version 4072. I also read but a couple of posts where some have not been happy with this update for various reasons. So, before installing this update, I would like to ask what the consensus is from those who have already updated InCD with this latest version. Should I risk installing it? or are there some undesirable problems which would suggest holding off at this time and stay with version 4056?

Thanks,

Jeff

I installed it. It seems to work fine for me, added no new problems that I've seen with respect to the prior. However, it did not include the fix the pre-existing conflict between InCD and my PCI ethernet modem (a minor inconvenience as opposed to a showstopper).

It did fix the Word bug in one respect. I was able to create a .doc file with Word 2003 and save it dirrectly to CD-RW. Only problem I had with it was that I could no longer delete the file from the CD-RW. I also had 4.0.7.2 really cause problems when trying to eject the disc from the drive. Gave up and installed Roxio Drag to Disc 6.1.1.7 and ALL my problems went away...First time I can credit Roxio for Anything positive in a very long time. D2D came with my PX-708A and installed with no problems. Once I installed D2D...I was able to delete the file created with IinCD 4.0.7.2. Fix one problem and create more than ever...that's 4.0.7.2
The only really functional version of InCD is 3.5.24. However, it doesn't recognize my Plextor drive...

I also eventually gave up on InCD and installed DirectCD. I used to dislike DirectCD, but 5.3 is working fine for me now. Maybe I'll go back to InCD when it gets stable, but for now, DirectCD is working. I still prefer Nero 5.5 over other burning programs, though.

I agree there...I still use Nero 5.5.10.42 and have NO complaints about it at all. As long as it keeps burning great DVD's at 8X with my PX-708A...I'll burn with it until the cows come home.

Thanks Slim for the input. I went ahead and installed/updated InCD 4072 and haven't experienced any anomalies YET. However, the "AutoPlay" function that is supposed to open InCD when a blank CD-RW is inserted into the drive still doesn't work for me. I am beginning to think that this will never work. Image

I Just noticed that Ahead has removed the date of 28 Oct 2003 for the InCD download.

Could it mean that there will shortly be another update?
Or did they just get tired of answering folkkes asking why all the other pieces are dated 7 Nov 2003 and InCD was dated 28 Oct 2003.

After I posted the above, Ahead put back the 28 October 2003 date, now it is again gone.

For the website issues I suggest to contact webmaster@nero.com to report them. It looks there is a problem with the release date indeed.

The problem of non-deletable file described by bobmitchell is new to me. If someone is able to reproduce it, I'll love to have a report send to techsupport@nero.com to get this issue solved.

dburg...

Here's another one for you. I have a Toshiba Sattellite 5205-S705. It has the Panasonic UJ-810 DVD-RAM / DVD-R / DVD-RW / CD-R drive. When I install 4.0.7.2 or any 4x version of InCD...I get blue screens and can't write to the disk (CD-RW). InCD 3.5.24 works like a CHAMP! No problems writing or erasing...no issues at all.

Specs;

P4M-2.4GHZ
512 MB PC-2100 DDR SDRAM
Windows XP MCE
Toshiba 60 GB 5400 RPM HDD
Sonic MyDVD 4.5

You can go to the Toshiba support site...choose my machine and get full specs...The machine originally shipped with Drag'n Drop...but I uninstalled when I took it home...cleaned the registry and that was that. The only other possibility is the DVD-RAM software that enables the drive to write to DVD-RAM discs..

Thoughts?

-> When do you get the bluescreen exactly? At reboot time?
-> Did you send an error report to Microsoft Windows Error Report?

The blue screen is when I try to write to the disk...on the laptop. I get blue screen on desktop with plextor on reboot!

Dave...

Now that I have installed 6.0.0.28 on my Toshiba...the InCD problem is gone...so far! I can write to the disk and delete files without the blue screen.

Now...if you can find out what's what with the Plextor PX-708A...we'd be in GREAT shape.

So far so good...InCD 4.0.7.2 did not work well with Nero 5.5...but once I went to Nero 6.0.0.2x...I'm OK

Compliments..on Nero 6...I'm glad I waited until now...was worth the wait.

Well, as Nero 5.5 and Nero 6 are pure usermode applications, I am still worry that you could bluescreen your system with Nero 5.5 and InCD 4. I am of course glad that for you installing Nero 6 solved the problem, I although will still try to get your problem with Nero 5.5 and InCD 4 reproduced in order to get the problem fixed in InCD 4 (as InCD only has kernel components, it is the candidate guilty application for the bluescreen). So far I was not able to reproduce a bluescreen on the Toshiba Laptops available here, but they are much older than your, much different. Probably getting the same hardware and software configuration as you will help.
