LG 48X CDR Help!!

Anyone have as bad a result with LG 48X CDR (Prodisc) as this:


Burnt at 48X on LiteOn 48x24x48x.

As you can see, before the 70min mark, there are relatively small C1 errors, (about C1 Average of 1.5) then after the 70min mark, lots of C2 errors. Anyone know why this is happening?

I used CDCheck to see whether there would be any problems reading from the disc and it reported no errors. I also used CDCheck to do a comparision between the files on the CD and the source of the files on my HDD to see whether there where any differences and it reported none.

So, are discs with C2 errors okay? 'Okay' as in to store for long periods of time?
How many C1/C2 errors are acceptable before another disc should be burnt (for storage purposes)?

Here is another LG disc burnt at 12X:



I thought it might be the old firmware, so I upgraded to a newer one. From SSO9 to SSOE.
LG disc burnt at 4X (SSOE):



Don't know why, but discs burnt to under 65mins have no C2 errors, eg:

Yep.

I've used Teac (CMC) and Pioneer (CMC). Never a C2 error.
Also used Verbatim DataLifePlus (burns great).

If thats the case, I would blame the C2 errors on the media.. or at least the way the LG drive writes to them. I'd use other discs if you're storing important data.

absolutely, emphtically and unequivocally NO!

C2 errors: 0. C1 i'll leave for someone else to comment on.

must be a particularly bad batch.
by the way, how do you know they're Prodisc? KProbe doesn't recognize the manufacturer.

The Media Compatibility list at the top of the forum says Prodisc.

I'd say it's a very, very bad batch. The only reason I bought a 25 pack spindle was because a LG disc a friend burnt for me on his LiteON had less than an average 0.8 C1 errors.

I've still got 20 LG discs!!

Here is a representative Cdr of a few burned with a Richo CDRW at probably 12X with Data.

All Cdr present a similar graphic presentation.

The Media Compatibility list at the top of the forum says Prodisc.

The Media Compatibility List is just a guideline, it doesn't mean that all LG discs are made by Prodisc.

just because the Media Compatibility topic lists LG media made by Prodisc, that doesn't mean ALL LG media is made by Prodisc.

what's more, since the manufacturer code (in the ATIP) isn't recognized by KProbe it's suspicious.
maybe use another media identifier utility such as SmartBurn or CD Speed. it'll be interesting to see who the manufacturer of this media is.

With C1 errors, I'd consider a max of 25 to be good and a max of 50 to be ok, but not good. Others may have different standards; this is my personal preference. Of course, the lower number of C1 errors you have, the better the disc is.

BTW, every disc I scan with KProbe, it never recognises the disc manufacturer. How can I fix this?
