forum clock ?

is the clock set right?

it now says: The time now is Sat Nov 15, 2003 21:07 (my forum setting is GMT+2)
for me it's 20:15. (i'm GMT+2)
www.time.gov says 18:13 UTC
apart from being a few (6?) minutes behind there's the 1 hour difference.

or are you guys in the US still on DST?

Unless the forum clock is set for Atlantic Time, it is an hour fast. But if I recall, it's supposed to be set for Eastern Time. Daylight Savings Time is over. People brought this up before when the forum clock didn't automatically adjust to EDT. I think Socheat has to tweak the clock manually, although maybe Ian can do it.

i don't follow that about what time zone the clock is set for.
each user has a Timezone setting in his profile.
so if the clock is set correctly every user should see his correct time.

TEST,

Everything is working fine here. Time is just 6 minutes off. If it is an hour off for you dodeca, change your time zone setting in your forum profile until the hour matches...

According to the time.gov, everything matches up, except the 6 minutes. UTC is GMT, and you are GMT +2 so you need to add 2 hours to the UTC (GMT) time.

my profile says GMT+2
at the bottom of the last post of every topic it says "All times are GMT + 2 Hours"
my time zone indeed IS GMT+2

and yet the time of the forum (as displayed in the CDRLabs.com Forum Index page at the top left) is 1 hour off.
the time is now 2:13 an it says "The time now is Sun Nov 16, 2003 03:05"
so something is amiss.

PHPBB forums aren't perfect, sh*t happens. Just change the time zone used so that you get the right time going. During DST, I have to change mine to GMT -5, from GMT -6, because GMT doesn't (Pretty Sure) observe DST, and the state of Minnesota does.

The forum clock is off an hour (and a bit). My profile says GMT+1 and the current time shown (as of this writing) is 1:20 pm. Local time is 1:26 pm, Central European Time (GMT+1). This doesn't really bother me, though.

Other sites have problems with time as well. CDFreaks, for example, claims to be at GMT, but they always run an hour behind our local time, so they actually use British summer time in the appropriate season.

Not sure when 2.2 is coming out, but that's where they (the phpBB gurus) said it would it be fixed. :-?

Wierd, all of a sudden, I checked my computer clock vs CDRLabs clock, and it was off an hour. I had to set it back to GMT -7, even though I am only GMT -6.

OK, time (pun not intended

) to bump this topic again.

my local time is 2:43, forum clock is 3:29.

a discrepancy of 46 minutes.

even if there's a 1 hour difference which may be due to some DST issues (??? at this time of year ???), there's still a discrepancy of 14 minutes.

is anybody else seeing this?

Well, normally time drift is a normal thing in computers (and most other devices), losing a small fraction of time, over time, but 14 minutes in only 23 days is really drastic (that's how long the server has been up since the last reboot). I thought I had installed ntpdate, a utility that regulary syncs *nix machines with a network time server, but I guess I didn't.

It's installed now, so except for being an hour off during DST (phpBB bug), time should stay relatively on track.

Edit: Actually, now that I think about, since nothing was ever syncing the clock, even a reboot wouldn't cause the clock to resync, so the server has probably been losing fractions of seconds ever since we moved to the new server.

mmm...still i would expect a time drive to be very small. 14 minutes cumulative is a lot!

also, somehow, the time is right now, the 1 hour diff is gone!
i wonder why, i haven't changed my time zone setting.

but hey, now it works right and that's all that matters.

The DST bug occurs in the fall, when we set back the clock an hour. phpBB doesn't take that into account. So, the forums will be "on time" until the fall. It's been said that phpBB 2.2 will fix this problem.

It's great to have the time fixed! Frankly, I'm so used to juggling time zones that an hour here or there doesn't bother me much. The 6 or 14 minutes or whatever were really more annoying.

We (still) have a VAX cluster at work and the system time tends to drift significantly- a couple of minutes per month is normal, so I'm really not surprised.
