Quality Spindle DVD media? Does it exist?

Postby jbuda on Fri Nov 14, 2003 4:54 pm

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knows of a quality DVD-R or DVD+R media vendor that sells it by the spindle? I am looking for 50 or 100 and the one's I have tried are total crap. It was $70 for 100. that is probably way too cheap. What are the best deals?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

How fast do you want? 1X, 2X, 4X?
No, I like women.

I've had excellent results with Memorex 4x DVD+R media on spindles. When CompUSA or Best Buy has a 40% off sale its very inexpensive. I started with a spindle of 10, then 25, now I see they have 50s. When on sale they are about $1.20 per disc for a spindle of 25.

100 Pack of 4x DVD+R Ricoh01 at newegg for $109 shipped These guys burn 8x in the Plextor burner and in the Nu Tech burner. I'll be ordering some for christmas. Only downside is they are all pink.

I would steer clear of these.

I have a bunch of TDK branded Ricohs that burn each and every time at 8X in my TDK 840G (a Plextor 708A, rebranded).

However these discs you mention, which are "arita", hardly ever burn at 8X. They say they are burning at 8X, but actually burn at 4X for the last portion of the burn. The average burn time is 10 minutes, sometimes longer. I get coasters about 25% of the time.

Now the discs that drop down in speed -do- work, but I can spend $1.20 a disc for the branded TDK discs (as I did at Staples this week by buying on-sale 25 packs, or as you can do starting Sunday at Best Buy for a 100 pack) - and know that I will get no coasters and 100% 8X burns.

YMMV, of course.

Any suggestions for ordering on-line? Good places to order from? Whenever I goto one of the "Media Outlets" all I usually see is "Grade A DVD media!" How can I know who they are manufactured by?

I am basically happy with the spindled 4x DVD-R media made by Ritek (RITEKG04) and sold by meritline.com .

If you are in the US, Best Buy has TDK 4x DVD+R media on sale for $119.99 for 100 this week (11/16 - 11/22). Pretty darn good deal. I've been using it almost exclusively and never have a problem with it.
