Plextor 708A vs Sony DRU530

Postby Big Picture on Mon Nov 10, 2003 12:53 am

I want to get an 8x drive to use with DVDXcopy Platinum and the Plextor 708A looks good to me now. Are there any good reasons to wait for the Sony DRU530? Is the Sony drive likely to have a bigger buffer, does that really matter? I plan to use a DVD ROM drive to rip and a DVD write drive to write.

Thank You

The DRU-530A will have a 2MB buffer like the PX-708. I would recomend the PX-708A, it is a great choice, and we know it writes to quite a few 4x DVD+R disks at 8x quite well.

I'm sure the Sony will perform just as well.

I'm not so sure about that one the 2 old SONY DRU models are not as good as the PLextor dvdburners or the pioneer a06 when it comes to writing quality based on data from CHIP & C't.

I would never have predicted that the aviationwiz would have said this. :D

Well my 500a does great with some media and OK with others just like any drive. So far the media it makes always works in the hardware that supports the media. Now wether it burns at full speed to minus media is another matter but it always seems to work.
However I do want to get a faster burner soon with better cheap media capacity so I've been watching all of these kind of threads :)
