Firstly what O/S are you using?
How have you got your drive installed Primary / Slave, Secondry/ Master, Secondry / Slave? (Sec Master is preferable) check your jumper settings on rear of unit and check your cables.
What other drives do you have installed? ( Leave only HD (Prim master and Burner Sec master) and see if that worx.

If all that fails............

My sugestion from previous exp....is to check that you have no viruses on your machine then make sure that the version of nero is the latest (V6.0.0.19) ....my burner worked with this version using BX02 and BX03 Firmware. I have not used sonic so I cant assit there.

I remember a machine i fixed that would not recognise blank CD-R media because of a virus that infected a DLL but cant remember the name of the file....

See how you go, good luck :)

My Set up

Postby BoogieBlues on Sat Nov 01, 2003 8:57 pm

running XP home edition....Pent4..1.9.....512DDR
I have the NU tech unit hooked up secondary-Slave...this was fact default....Have a lite on DVD rom...Sec-Master the only change I made when I installed it was to change audio cable...the Lite on had digital and the CD writer I took out was analog...so I put digital to NU tech and analog to the Lie on unit....I ran norton and have no Viruses...Iam using Nero 6000.....Am downloading nero 60019 right now to see If it will fix the problem...Everything else on the NU tech works reads CD's and writes them....gives all the Drives info....But keeps saying my drive is empty when I try to write DVD's..if Nero update dosent work I will try switching jumpers if I can figure which on is which...Big John....PS thanks for your help....PS...Just tried to play a Store bought DVD in the NU tech Drive..It wont play it but the Lite on Drive Will....The Nu tech says no media when I try to play it...This Sucks
PPPPSSS.....OK I took both drives out put the Nu tech in top bay....Sec-Master....Lite-on...Second tray...Sec-Slave....Quess What?...Same old crap The nu tech still wont burn...play or even admit there is any media in the Drive...Ran some CD burning tests with good TY media...Nero 6.0019.at 40x....60% faled toaster......32X....74% failed..Toaster...24X..100% failed...Toaster....Went to Sonic CD ....failed Toaster....Went to MUSIC MATCH....32X....made a good burn but buffer was at 99-100% the whole time....Nu Tech Web Page has been down for 2 days can not bring it up to try to update firmware!!!!! I think this thing might just be a piece of CRAP!!!!Now I Quess i get to screw around with United Micro to see if they will take it back...not sure if I want a replacement or not....Should have gone with The Pioneer 106...a little slower but at least the damn things work..... as you probably can tell Iam just a Little Pissed OFF!!!!..LOL....What I get for trying to save a Buck..................BIG JOHN

Hey Big John... I have had this unit for a month now and it is damm fast and it has cooked everything, I have even got it to change book type(bitsetting) It has cooked a full movie in under 8 mins using 4X Verbatim media @ 8X and has preety good speed, burning music on CD-R.

You may have got a lemon, shite happens, but this drive with some more firmware will do more than others can do but at a lower price, much lower.

My m8 an I got one of these because of the price and yes we took a gamble, I have no regrets and neither does he, we are preety dammed pleased if not extatic even.

I have heard some peeps complaing about other drives as well so you are not the only guy thats been screwed.

Maybe the unit got thrown around and was jolted or even dropped once or twice, who knows, I really feel for you and I hope what ever you get it worx beter than the drive you have there.

Good Luck m8 and happy cookin!

I should be able to get more in depth testing on this unit soon not that crap we have seen from Tom and other review.

Cheers m8.

BTW i have cooked some 12 CD-R and about 10 DVD+R without 1 coaster :)

I have used nero, CloneDVD and RecordNowMax............

I am about to back some of my DVD collection so Iwill post on how things work owt. (20 DVD's)

Have you tried talking to NU customer support for a RMA ?
Would deffinitely cost you a lot less than the shipping/refund.

So far I dont see why they have the bad Reputation they have....Called them on their toll free number this morning....was talking to a rep in less than 2 mins...they had already sent me an RMA# by e-mail from where I e-mailed them Sunday about the units problems...was told they would have a replacement sent out within 1-2 days after they receive my unit back...I have to pay return shipping but that is pretty much standard with on line transactions...They also had no problems with upgading to a Pioneer 106....But I think I will stay with the Nu Tech DDW-081 one more time...I like the possabilites of this unit...hopefully Dual format soon...Mt Rainer support...Bit Setting...8X...If I happen to get another Lemon which I dont think I will....I will send it back and get the Pioneer....Big John

I don't know how Nu Tech could have a bad rep. They haven't been around long enough to earn one. Most likely its just people (that have no clue) talking smack.

I don't think anyone mentioned this, but the Nu Tech drive can write to TDK 4x (Ricoh) at 8x.

Edit: Duh.. it says this on their website. I never noticed.

New Owner and Poster

Postby jagercola on Thu Nov 06, 2003 12:22 pm

Hey :) I'm a new owner and poster here are cdrlabs. I just got an 8x Nu Tech DVD+r writer and its great. I have two questions. 1. Is there any posability of a hacked FW to increase the DVD dual layer read speed (Aka rip)? 2. I noticed that it burns MCC002 and Ricoh01 at 8x. Where is the cheapest to 25-50 discs? I think Ritek disks are the Ricoh, so that may be the cheapest. Also, anyone have a link to a tutuorial on backing up Dvd videos? I've heard DVDshrink is great to use.
Thanks Will

What 8x DVD ripping speeds aren't fast enough for you?

I've been ordering my DVD media from Meritline.

The tutorial is for an older version of DVDShrink, but it should help some.

Thanks for your prompt repsonse. I hope more and more people buy this 8x drive. I want us to build a community like the pioneer burner. I bet it will really sell when they update the firmware to do dvd-r. The bitsetting option is great too I imagine.

Hi all...

Well, I think I have had my fun with my LDW-411S. Time for an upgrade.

The Nutek 8x drive is looking like good bang for buck....

A few questions however

i) Ripping speed issues. I had the LDW-411S ripping @ an average of 8-9x with pressed DVD's. Can the Nutek match it? I don't want to be ripping @ 2x here!

ii) The dual format firmware issue. Its definite?

iii) How about copy protection on games? Safedisk, SecureROM, CorrectEFM Encoding etc....I want the full schpeel......

Basically, I want someone to give me reasons NOT to buy the drive!

My buddy NUT has one.....he loves it. I just want some additional info on stuff you might have experienced with your drives.....

8)
