LG GSA 4040B Cannot format DVD-RAM

Postby smellycanine on Wed Nov 05, 2003 9:31 pm

I cannot get Windows 2000 to format a DVD-RAM. Each time I try I get an error message:

Cannot format this disk.
Check disk and try again.

Using Windows 2000 service pack 4

ANy Ideas,
The LG tech support people suggested I install the driver........sigh...

anyway, thanks in advance

Everything else works fine, in terms of burning DVD -r and -rw

You didn't say which filesystem you were trying to put on the disk.

WinXP can natively format a DVD-RAM disk for the FAT32 filesystem, without any added driver. LG's driver adds the ability the format a DVD-RAM disk for either UDF1.5 or UDF2.0.

Have you tried all three filesystems?

You didn't say what software you were using either. Judging by the error code, its InCD 3. InCD doesn't support DVD-RAM. Listen to LG and use the driver.

Sorry for being so vague, I was only using the LG driver in Windows 2000.
I did not install incd3 or any other software.

I bought the bulk box and did not recieve drivers, I had to get them from a guy at dvdrhelp.com 's forum. LG only has the firmware on their web site, they do not have drivers for download.

I tried using both formats in Windows 2000.
I tried it in my WindowsXP machine, and Windows XP would not format the disk either.

Could it be I got an incompatible disk?

It says type IV and DVDRAM 2.6
Memorex brand.

I couldnt have used the DVD Ram without installing the driver to get the error messege. My point was that LG did not read my help request at all when they suggested that I install the driver.

I have only used 4.7GB DVD-RAM disks in my drive, not the older 2.6GB disks.
