which UDMA mode 2/3/4/5 should my DRU-500a run at?

Postby daudi88 on Mon Oct 27, 2003 9:06 pm

Hi All, been troubleshooting some unrealible burning and have the DRU-500a as master on the secondary IDE channel. I dont have the 80 pin cable hooked up and it is being recognized in bios as UDMA mode/2. Is this an okay mode for it to be running in to burn DVDs? If I pick up an 80 pin cable will it run at a higher UDMA mode number or perform more reliably? Does any of this matter at all? Thanks.

yo, i have a ASUS A78NX Deluxe mobo. My DRU500a is running at UDMA2 as well as my Samsung 48/24/48/16 CDRW/DVD Combo drive. The samsung is Master, and the DRU500a is Slave, both using Cable Select on an 80pin conductor cable on the Secondary IDE channel.

So, if you are getting UDMA2 using a normal IDE cable, you're ok.

A 40 Pin/80 conductor cable is not necessary for UDMA-2. If you are having a problem with the cable it is not because it's not an 80 conductor cable, it's just a flakey cable.
