Which of these would you recommend getting

I'm getting my new retail LiteOn 401s DVD writer tomorrow. The question is quality media. I'm hearing so much stuff about burn quailty that its sounds like a crap shoot. Of the two links below, One for "Memorex DVD+R 4x" and the other "Genuine Ritek G04 Grade A DVD-R 1X-4X".

Which would you recommend for the LiteOn 401s.

I would recommend NOT getting the LiteON DVD writer, unless of course all you want is a CD burner, in which case it does a very good job! Just don't expect to burn DVD very well!

i'd recommend that you get a Pioneer DVR-A06 if you are concerned about cost of media and burning reliably at 4x onto DVD-R media. the A06 burns consistently at 4x on Princo 4x -R media which is as cheap as $0.84 per disc at http://www.supermediastore.com/ and you can also find more deals and coupons on media at http://www.techbargains.com/

If you can afford it, go for the Plextor PX-708A.

Guys thanks for the responses. First off, Ian here at CDRLabs gave the LiteOn a 9/10 review. I'm relying on reviews of drives to get all the info i need. But from what you guys are recommending, it seems that the LiteOn doesn't perform as well as the other burners out there.

I figured with the LiteOn 401s and the best media, I couldn'd go wrong.
Plus they (Liteon) seems to be comming out with new firmware every month or so. Seems like it was a good idea.

Again thanks.

FYI, LiteOn 401S is a +R/RW burner, so I don't understand why you are considering DVD-R discs in the first place? Although some people reported that they were able to "upgrade" their 401S drives, most also reported that they had very poor results burning -R discs.

Do you still have an option to change to 411? We generally hear that 401 drive can be made to read minus media but there is certainly some risk involved right? Anyways, having a dual format writer would give you security regardless of which format (plus or minus) wins the race.
Stone walls do not a prison make,
Nor iron bars a cage;
Minds innocent and quiet take
That for an hermitage;
If I have freedom in my love,
And in my soul am free,
Angels alone that soar above
Enjoy such liberty. - Richard Lovelace
