Suggested config for $800

I have a budget of $800 to build a computer for my brother. He wants to do gaming and video production. Here's what I got.

I am considering getting a dual format DVD burner instead of the lite on 52x32x52x. Any suggestions? (BUDGET) I might get him to go to $900, I have a mouse, modem, and speakers already, also leave monitor out.

"Bro's something something" all i remember is i have "Bro's" first. It has an aopen mobo, 2.4 ghz P4 800mhz fsb and other stuff. comes to be about $840. (Cant find name cuz newegg is performing "routine maintenance")

Stoner's recommendations are good, except I would substitute a Western Digital or Maxtor hard drive in place of the Hitachi/IBM. I never liked IBM desktop drives; I had too many of them die.

My only other comment, if you want to stick with Intel processors, that's fine. I prefer Intel over AMD, but no need to get into a debate about that here. Throw all the statistics and lab results out the window, both AMD and Intel make very good processors. I honestly feel the decision someone makes is personal.

get segate HD or Maxtor hard drive i don't like my WD Hard drive right now

My WD Raptor is a great drive, but I would prefer a Maxtor Hard Drive over a WD any day. Only reason why I got Raptor is cause it's 10K RPM.

WDSE HDs have 3 years warranty. Maxtor has 1. Seagate seems to have the lower dba. While IBM's the fastest. Your choice. I just picked up a pair of WDSE 120GB/8MB for $68 each.

WD also has a 1 year warrenty if you get a 2MB Cache HDD, Maxtor has a 3 year if you get an 8MB Cache drive.

I am thinking about getting the latest one on slickdeals.net, 120 GB maxtor with 8mb cache for $60 after MIR. OfficeDepot

Absolutely! Shop around! That's how you get the best deals. Sometimes it doesn't always pay off for you to give all your dough to one company like Newegg.
