I just found that the SMART-BURN limit for my 48x CMC discs is back at 52x (it was 40x on QS0A). I'll post some tests later.

How's the CD-RW compatability?

I am a bit afraid to test it myself because I might have trouble downgrading to QS09(?)

RW quality is equal to or better than QS09, you can see scans on some common media HERE QS0C seems to combine all the best qualities from QS09 and QS0A.

Yes, I was really amazed at how well that worked. Since the Smart-Burn limit was 52x, I thought I'd try it and see what would happen.

I see that there are two versions a "win" and a "bin". Am I correct in assuming that I can install the "win" version by unzipping and running the executable from within Windows where the partitions are NTFS formatted? As such, I won't have to use mktflash?

You're right. The "Win" version can run under Windows. I used it to update three 52327S drives on my Windows XP computer (one was there temporarily for testing), and it worked fine! MTKFlash or other flash tools aren't needed to install the "Win" version.

The yellow light came on one or two seconds before it finished recording.

As I wrote the disc with the "Create Data CD" function of CDSpeed, I saved a picture of the graph of the disc being written. It really did write the disc at 52x, and it took 2:34 to complete.

This is not the older 24x TY, it's the 48x TY. which explains the excellent scan at 52x.

I got those discs at BestBuy a little under a year ago. The shrinkwrap said 24x on it, and a sticker with 40x was stuck on top of the shrinkwrap. I'm surprised that the media in there was actually the 48x media.

Fuji was using old packaging on the new media and adding the 40x sticker.
There was something of a stink about it at the time, people thought they were getting ripped off.

Lead-out (capacity):
79:59:74 = 16x CDR (later re-rated to 24x)
79:59:73 = 24x CDR (later re-rated to 32x)
79:59:72 = 40x CDR (later re-rated to 48x)

I didn't know that TY actually re-rated their discs; I'm glad to find that my discs were really 40x discs in disguise, though!
