Media Compatibility With CD-RW Drives - Which Media Is Best?

OH MY, I just bought two of Medianca branded cdr's from local pc shop on impulse and thought I'd might as well tes em out and kprobe the results and I am extremely happy to say they are AMAZING!

The cdr's are sold in jewel boxes, packs of 10 for £5 pictured here

The CD info kprobe reads is

The burn speed rated on them is 52x, I used nero to burn 703MB of mixed mp3's using DAO and finalized the session. Burn time was the quickest I've ever seen too

and Kprobe write stratefy results

Very impressed with these and as you can see the c1 rate is most ipressive, the lowest of any cdr I've ever tested so far, I think I've found my new regular cdr's

I also bought the CDRW variant (rated 4-12x) and ran a simular test on those but with mixed data and again, VERY impressive results compared to all other media I have tried to date

i'm not doubting you, but to the best of my recollection, from various scans of rdgrimes, CD-RW discs always have a much higher level of C1 errors, even the best media!

I'll do a complete eras-format of the disc and reburn the same data to the cdrw to make sure and post back shortly. I'll do this by imaging the disc in nero then erasing>burning the image back

Just done a re-run, after a reburn it appears that they have taken to thenature of a cdrw, more c1 errors (but not that much) and no c2 errors. The strange thing is my infiniti pro cdrw which is months old has fewer c1 errors than the new medianca one so I guess you could say that the medianca cdr is 100% perfect but the cdrw is just "ok" or "average"

I did a double burn, one on the above media and one on a spare Infiniti Professional 12x cdrw I had with the exact same data.

Again, burne din Nero with 649MB of data and scanned with KProbe

HP 48x Rated Burned @ 48x 100% green.
Kprobe 1.1.2.6 shows quite low number of C2 error too, I'm very surpise how good these are I thought they would suck like other CMC disks.

KProbe values for a VCD disk (max reading speed is 32x):
Samsung/Plasmon: C1 max/ave = 11 / 1.3
Fujitsu-Siemens (FSI)/CMC: C1 max/ave = 27 / 5.9

Both distributions are essentially flat. These are the first CMC's I've encountered where the C1-count didn't increase towards the end

. Both media types are OK, but nothing special- other than that these Samsungs are the classiest looking disks I've ever seen (see Spazmogen's old post).

They look good, but I wouldn't go as far as saying they perform very well. Those results are on par with some of my 48x CMC disks.

And they certainly performed better than the 48X Fujitsu-Siemens/CMC discs that MediumRare tested at, I'm assuming, the same time.

I decided to see what's so bad about the fuji Prodisc cdr's at least this batch seems to burn quite well.
